“The historic Battery, at the tip of the peninsula. Its the location on the harbor you always see the weather channel broadcast from during big storms. Wonderful photo spot, large oaks and great spot for a picnic. Great place to see old architecture. Free parking along the battery also. There are no public restrooms in the park though (just keep in mind)”

“This is without a doubt, a must see and checkbox item while you visit. Amazing sunset and sunrise views and great for fishing or photo opportunities! Also, fun to grab a drink at the bar right on the pier or if you want a cool treat...get some ice cream at the store right on the pier.”

“Walking guided tours of a former plantation. Lots of local and national context provided. Refreshingly from the perspective of the enslaved people, not the plantation owners.”

“This park is located next to the James Island Yacht Club. It was formerly known as “Sunrise Park”, and it offers some spectacular views of Charleston Harbor and the Arthur Ravenel Bridge. This park does not cover a large area of land, but the variety of scenery here is incredible. Many people bring their dogs here to walk.”

“This Heritage Preserve protects one of the very few important Civil War sites in the state. It is built around the remains of an old Civil War fort constructed in 1862 as part of James Island's defense. A short hiking trail takes you to some of the area's historic sites. Additionally, you can get a nice view of the marsh at a few spots along the way.”
