“Dachigam National Park is located 22 kilometers from Srinagar. It covers an area of 141 square km. The name of the park literally stands for "ten villages" which could be in memory of the ten villages that were relocated for its formation. The park has been a protected area since 1910, first under the care of the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir and later under the observation of the concerned government authorities. It was initially created to ensure clean drinking water supply for the city of Srinagar. It was upgraded and declared a National Park in the year 1981. ”

“Dalhousie is again a site for Tibetan refugees. This is nothing like McLeod which is a Tibetan headquarter. Apart from the usual Tibetan Market and a Gonpa Dalhousie has a Tibetan handicraft center where they still hand knot the thread on looms very traditionally to make those prayer carpets. ”

“When Makai Park was being built, roasted corn stalls lined the nearby road and became the park’s namesake. Over a decade later, the lakeside park attracts tourists and locals with its tranquil atmosphere, but the roadside barbecue remains the main attraction.”
