“Good snorkel spot. Some parking available, get there early. Make sure to have water shoes as it is rocky to get into water.”

“You can drive or walk in, but I recommend once you reach park, walk North along the coast until you get to what locals call Makalawena. You'll know you're there once you hit a very long stretch of White sand and Crystal Blue water. You will come across a couple of beaches that fit this description, but unless you're walking for about 20 minutes minimum, they are not It! Makalawena is a beauty of 2 worlds....White sand with Blue Water and if you continue on, it'll turn into a rocky landscape with brackish water ponds. There is an entrance directly into Makalawena, but the road is treacherous and a 4 wheel drive vehicle is needed!”

“Local surf spot. Has restrooms and outdoor showers. The beach isn’t the greatest. Crowded on weekends with families. ”

“An expansive lawn area with tall palms and kiawe trees providing plenty of shade adorn the park, with lots of lush grass to go along with the small pockets of sand on the beach. It’s quiet here and almost never crowded. Like most Kona beaches, Pahoehoe Beach is a comfortable place for a picnic or to simply sit and watch the surf. There are plenty of picnic tables and benches scattered throughout the park.”

“This is a state park located 2 minutes down the road from the Executive Retreat. Tranquil and peaceful area that is popular for bird watching, sight seeing (a walk up to the cinder cone gets you an amazing ocean view), and hiking. ”

“This is a short little hike that can be done in 30 minutes. Also great for trail running if it's not too muddy. A really cool climate to experience, the farther up in elevation you go the more it feels like a jungle-y cloud forest. ”

“A 35 minute drive will get you to this great keiki beach, good for small children. You need one of a limited number of daily passes from the security gate, which keeps crowds down. There is good snorkeling, and it is surrounded by nice houses. If you walk to the north, you may see a lot of turtles.”

“Locals love this surf spot. Good for medium/advanced level surfers. Right next to Kona Bali Kai. The best surfers come here early, so it can get crowded.”

“There is a blue bike rental spot right here. It only cost $3.50 for 30 min and $20 for 300 minutes. You can use these minutes over several days. This can be a fun way to get around Ali'i drive. ”
