“Fantastic white sand beach with lots of public parking. Fantastic spot to watch the gorgeous Kona sunsets. Be advised, it gets pretty busy on the weekends.”

“If some freak climatic event ever brought winter hibernation to the Big Island, you could survive the lean season by storing the calories away after a single plate lunch at this institution. The food here – short ribs, garlic fried chicken, loco moco etc – is both delicious and served in simply awe-inspiring portions.”

“Historic Site with kaloko Fish ponds. Large coast line area with hiking trails along the oceanfront.Picnic area with bathroom. Several different surf breaks-harbor lefts handles some bigger swell and likes more west at medium tide.”

“Kekaha Kai is accessible with a fairly high clearance car. Palm trees, deep shade at the top of the beach. Walk across the beach, and follow the lava path under the coconut palms for 1/2 mile to Makalawena Beach (if you arrived in the day and had a window seat, you may have seen these beaches). It's a trek, there are no toilet or water facilities, and it's mostly unoccupied, and a total beauty! Check out the freshwater ponds behind the sand. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes for this walk!”

“Easily accessible beach park if you'd like to park and watch the sunset. Not known for high quality sand, but it's close to downtown Kailua-Kona, and offers ponds to wade in, as well as some rougher sand entries. Pine Trees surf spot is located at the end of the access road. I don't recommend Pine Trees for surf beginners, as the reef can be very shallow. ”

“Sea turtle sea turtles, I’ve seen the most sea turtles at this beach! It’s 4 miles south to Kona airport. Do not go to the park entrance, instead, drive to the Marina and park at the north end then walk half mile through the gates towards north until you see a refugee hut on the white sand. There are often many turtles in the shallow water”

“Spicy, healthy, delicious. This is our go-to for Thai when we're craving some heat. Bring a friend and share the goodness. Opt out of the pad thai, and give the 11 spice curry a try. A wonderful blend of HOLY CRAP -- on top of this crispy pancake crepe to soak up the curry. Soothe the heat with the yogurt sauce on the side. They have Singha by the bottle and accept major credit cards. There's also ice cream by-the-scoop as well in case your sweet tooth beckons. ”
