“The 1964 Earthquake shaped this hilly area, which offers trails and an interpretive display. Also, it is located next to the airport, and you can see the planes come in and land right above your head!”

“Anchorage has one of the best trails I’ve come across on my travels! Grab a bike or some cross country skis and head out for the day. Less then 1 mile from High North. ”

“Bishop's Beach was the local access to Anchor Point from Homer, before the Sterling Highway connected the two communities. It is now a great place for picnics, walking your dog (generally an off-leash location; if your dog is too aggressive, keep him or her on leash, please), beach combing, or just enjoying the sound of wind and waves. Always be prepared for cooler temperatures, even in summer, to fully enjoy your stroll on the beach. Generally the water is too cold for swimming.”

Nature Preserve
“Potter Marsh, at the southern end of the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, is an ideal break from Anchorage for birders and other wildlife viewers. From the Seward Highway just before the left turn into the Potter Marsh parking lot, you are treated to a stunning view of Turnagain Arm. A wooden boardwalk winds 1,550 feet from the parking area through the marsh and across watery openings and sedges, perfect habitat for a rich variety of birds.”

Trail
“If a great view sounds better to you than a climb up Flattop, the Glen Alps Trail is the next best thing for a fantastic view of the Anchorage Bowl and the Cook Inlet. On most days, the Kenai Peninsula is visible in the distance. Primarily an easy hike after one moderate uphill climb, the trail is suitable for most adults and teens. The elderly, small children, and anyone with difficulty standing or walking should opt for one of the other trails in the area.”

“Really awesome views of the city from the parking lot. There is a trail that goes further up and I think it's about 5 miles round trip, but the last part is difficult. ”
