“I spent many years in Lavenham and never tire of the stunning timber framed buildings and its history. It has plenty of shops ideal for gifts. This was once one of the richest places in England, it shows from the investment into the amazing houses and church.”

“Another stunning timber framed building, even more opulent inside. The Gallery Restaurant is an amazing Tudor delight, where we've often enjoyed afternoon teas, and wonderful evening meals. There is a also modern Brasserie which overlooks the gardens which is ideal for a relaxing lunch. The Airman's Bar is most enjoyable! It is so named as it was frequented by WWII servicemen from RAF Lavenham, the 487th Bombardment Group (8th US Army Air Force), as well as the Corps of Military Police, the Army, Royal Engineers and Royal Army Service Corps. There are many signatures preserved on the wall, and their mementos. This is a fascinating and nostalgic surviving piece of 1940's history. ”

“LAVENHAM GUILDHALL Dominating Market Place is the 15th-century, timber-framed Guildhall. Here you can learn the story of the medieval woollen trade and the history of Lavenham over the centuries. Originally built as a meeting place for wealthy Catholic merchants, the Guildhall has also been used as a prison, a workhouse, a pub, a chapel and a social club for US troops stationed nearby during the Second World War. When the wool trade began to decline in the 17th century, the building deteriorated to the point that it was no longer safe. It was restored in the 20th century and given to the National Trust. HARRY POTTER Walking amongst the timber-framed houses and crooked, half-timbered cottages makes it easy to see why the streets of Lavenham have been used as the setting for numerous TV shows and films, including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. The Lavenham Guildhall in Market Place was transformed into the birthplace of Harry Potter, and the de Vere house on Water Street also appears in the film. The de Vere house was previously a hunting lodge and was once owned by the Earls of Oxford. ”

“Recently taken over by a local family concern who have two other excellent Pubs, The Swan in Long Melford and the Ram in Hadleigh. They have transformed the Greyhound from a very tired pub into a great favourite of ours.”
