“The historical Charlemont House (1908) is home to The Dublin City Gallery also known as the Hugh Lane after the Irish born art collector. He left two wills one bequeathing his entire collection firstly to the National Gallery in London and later to The Dublin City Gallery. So what this means to us is that 4 of its 8 masterpieces are in Dublin until 2021 : Les Parapluies by Renoir Eva Gonzales by Manet Jour d ete by Morisot and View of Louveciennes by Picasso Unmissable also are the bejeweled Harry Clarke Stained glass window display and the entire chaotic studio of Francis Bacon exactly as he left it. ”

Lieu historique
“The Rock of Dunamase is a spectacular natural feature visible in the landscape of Co. Laois and just 5km away from where you are staying. It takes its name from the Irish Dún Másc, meaning the ‘Fort of Masc’. Dunamase was the seat or fort of the ancient Irish kings of Laois. In 845 the fortress or dún on top of the rock was attacked by a Viking army from Dublin, who plundered several other sites in the region. Nothing of this early fortress can be seen today today, but what does survive is one of the most spectacular Anglo-Norman fortifications in the country.”

“Montpelier Hill, better known as The Hellfire Club to Dubliners, is a lovely place for a weekend walk. It has a variety of short forest trails and provides wonderful views of the city from the south-west. On the weekends you can find it busy with urbanites escaping the city and dogs running free. At the top sits a large hunting lodge where, if the stories are to be believed, some very strange things have happened.”

“Public library with a free Yeats Exhibition on the lower floor. Note: The National Gallery, The National Museum (Archaeology), The National Museum (Natural History- AKA "The Dead Zoo"), and the National Library are all in the same area, so it's worth covering them together. All are free of charge. The Dead Zoo is my personal favourite.”

“This is an iconic building started in 2009 and opened a few years later. While it was controversial to commence the construction of a library costing €40m in the middle of the recession, it has proved a huge success. The scale of the building is awe inspiring and the number of books lent there is staggering. A wonderful piece of modern architecture.”
