“Next door to the La Brea Tar Pits & Museum sits the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the linchpin of the Los Angeles museum district. Since its 1965 opening, LACMA has showcased thousands of pieces, from Islamic artifacts to European impressionist paintings to modern art. With constantly shifting exhibitions and unique architecture stretched across more than 20 acres of land, LACMA offers a rewarding experience for both serious art buffs and casual travelers. You may have come for the Picassos or the Cézannes inside, but don't overlook the outdoor scenery. Recent travelers suggest visiting LACMA at night to admire Chris Burden's Urban Light installation, which is made up of 202 restored cast iron antique street lamps. ”

“A Summer Must! The Bowl has a great list of performances all summer long. Check the website and pick something that appeals to you--it is a varied program. Best to park outside the Bowl and take the shuttle--and you can take a picnic for before the performance--it's a great summer evening!”

Musée d'art
“The Broad suffered some significant delays in opening, but when the doors did finally swing open, Angelenos found an entirely columnless, sky-lit gallery by Diller Scofidio + Renfro. And all the impatience was soon forgotten (the free admission helps). The museum houses and continually exhibits Eli and Edythe (aka Edye) Broad’s collection of contemporary art, which is one of the largest and most significant worldwide. Plus, they’ve got great taste and have amassed large collections of works by artists like Cindy Sherman, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, and Christopher Wool. The fact that restaurateur Bill Chait of Bestia and Republique fame and Tim Hollingsworth of The French Laundry are teaming up on the restaurant next door should provide LA residents with even more incentive to head downtown. Meanwhile, tickets are hard to come by but so worth trying to snag.”

Salle de concert
“This Frank Gehry-designed concert hall has helped revive downtown Los Angeles, which was once dominated by mundane office buildings and lackluster entertainment options. Now, nightlife and culture burgeon in the area, and the concert hall is at the forefront. The curvaceous, stainless steel exterior is worth a visit alone, but travelers will also want to catch one of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's performances at the hall. (For ticket and price information, visit the Los Angeles Philharmonic's website.) But you don't have to invest in concert tickets to experience this performance venue: You can follow a docent-led tour or a self-guided audio tour of the exterior and interior (though the actual concert auditorium is off-limits). Hour-long guided and audio tours are both free; audio tours are offered Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 2 to 5 p.m., while guided tour hours vary by day and are generally available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.”

It's beautifully designed interior where you can see fish swimming above and below you makes spending a day there fascinating and fun for the whole family! Also, ride the Ferris Wheel after you visit the Aquarium. Pike's Peak is right next door with one of the tallest Ferris Wheels in Southern California! Luckily for you, the Ericson House is only about 30 minutes away by freeway!”
