“Very good food; people come from all over to eat at Mario's. Their menu says their food is Continental, which is worrisome, but that's because it calls well from several European cooking traditions. We particularly like their steak, scallops, burgers and popovers. Great sauces and soups. You may need a reservation, but if that's not available they will happily do a take out order or feed you at the bar. Closed Tuesdays.”

“The first Shaker settlement in the area. Beautifully preserved buildings and exhibits.”

Place to shop
“While it is fun to browse the antique stores of Hudson, they are also quite expensive. For real bargains, head to Meisner’s on Saturday night. Prices are normally 1/10th to ½ than they are in Hudson. Be sure to CAREFULLY inspect what you want to bid on ahead of time (during the week or right before the Saturday night auction) as everything is sold as is. If you see something you really like but can’t make the auction, phone bids are accepted. Check out items for sale on their website.”

Natural Feature
“Wonderful summertime chamber music concerts in the old wooden Shaker tannery building by the beautiful reflecting pond, right in New Lebanon. The hillscape view from there is unbeatable. ”

Restaurant
“This turns out to be a great friendly local place, particularly for wings and very good burgers. Pizza oven too. Bar, good selection of craft beers on tap. Find this place in a back corner of the Midtown Mall next to the OTB, but don't let that deter you. Closed Monday; the kitchen serves on other days until 10 but the bar stays open till 2 a.m.”

“There's six summer stock plays and musicals going on from June to September at the Theatre Barn in New Lebanon; the Agatha Christie always sells out.”

“Have to say, this is the closest place locally for drugstore items, household things, things you forgot, big boxes of cereal, Pop Tarts. Open every day and until nine, which is helpful.”

Nourriture
“New Lebanon doesn't have a grocery store, but we don't really need much of one in the summertime. Local farmers supply a great array of produce, bread, cheese, meat and sweets from June to the end of October. It happens every Sunday from 10 to 2, in the parking lot next to the bank, across from Blueberry Hill. Last year on a typical Sunday you could sample award-winning Four Fat Fowl cheese, pick up local charcuterie, sample an array of jams, encounter produce you'd never heard of before, hear live music, and sit at the picnic tables with a lunch of West African food. ”

“It may look jumbled from the outside but inside there's a good selection of antiques, particularly downstairs.”

Route
“Right off our road, this is a tree-lined country lane that parallels route 20, letting out on the other side of town. Just beautiful views of the farms & hills at any time of year. It's a wonderful place to set out for a walk-- either a short one, or go the full two miles into town (take the right at the intersection with route 5 to end up at the Farmer's Market or near Blueberry Hill). Spot the black & white Randall heritage cow herd, as well as the pond that seems to host a million ducks during migration season”

Nourriture
“In the summer, a fantastic place to get fresh corn. Great for seasonal produce and flowers. We buy our Christmas tree here every year too; the tractor takes us up the hill & we argue & pick one out and somehow manage to cut it down and get it back to the mill.”
