State / Provincial Park
“The one-square-mile park is densely packed with potential adventures. On a short walk around the perimeter of the park, you can hunt for agates, explore tidepools, and walk through a jungle of shrubs and trees as you peer out at seals, sea lions, and migrating whales. In the park’s interior, you’ll find a visitor center, a native plant garden, and a reconstructed Yurok plank-house village. You can picnic or wake up to birdsong at one of three campgrounds. In summer, you can witness a traditional ceremony at Sumêg Village or take a hike led by a docent or professional naturalist. ”

Lake
“Castle Lake is a glacial lake located in the Trinity Mountains, in Siskiyou County of northern California. It is west of Mount Shasta City and Mount Shasta peak. The outlet of the lake drains into Castle Lake Creek, and then into Lake Siskiyou reservoir, part of the headwaters of the Sacramento River. Nearly all of the lake's 47 acres are within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Trails lead from Castle Lake into the adjacent Castle Crags Wilderness area, and on to Castle Crags State Park, including trails to Little Castle Lake and Heart Lake Fishing, camping, and hiking are also available at or near the lake.”

Trail
“24 miles from Klamath Riverview is the area in which Redwood National Park was originally dedicated by Lady Bird Johnson, this trail holds a special place in both human and natural history. Along the trail, expect to encounter a smooth tread and gentle grades as you meander amongst the massive trunks of trees that have been alive since the time of Genghis Khan. Whatever time of year you visit, you are bound to enjoy the bounty of the season, whether it's the cool mists of winter hugging car-sized tree trunks, the bright blooms of spring azalea and rhododendron, summer's bright sunbeams streaming through the trees, or the fall's eruption of fiery bigleaf maple.”

Trail
“Our local park in next door Ross offers access to dozens of trailheads, both hiking and bike routes. The parking lot is small and you may have to wait in line for a space. If there's a line up of waiting cars be patient, it doesn't take too long for a space to open up. To avoid the wait altogether, we often have our daughter drop us off at the park and we hike home from there. The park is about a 5 minute drive from 274 Oak.”
