“The Cathedral of Sant'Andrea It was built in 987 adjacent to another 9th century church. There is a crypt built on the tomb of the patron saint and a Norman-style cloister that in 1268 connected the two old structures, later renamed Chiorstro del Paradiso. In the XII century the bell tower was built adjacent to the cathedral while at the foot of the staircase there is the fountain of Sant'Andrea, from 1760.”

“The Our Lady of the Assumption Church overlooks the sea and its dome, which we see on postcards and photographs, dominates Positano center. The typical colors of majolica of the Amalfi Coast - the green of lush vegetation, the blue of the sea and the yellow of the sun - make its dome shine. Inside, the main altar is decorated with an icon of the Black Madonna of Byzantine style, dating back to the 12th century. Popular tradition says that the painting was on board a sailing ship from eastern regions and that it remain blocked off Positano due to a strong calm see. As the sailors threw most of the cargo overboard, they heard a voice whisper "Posa, posa!" (Posa = Put down!). The captain interpreted those words as a manifestation of the Virgin's will to remain in that place, so he ordered to direct the bow towards land and the ship prodigiously began to move again. On reaching the shore, sailors handed over the effigy of the Virgin and Child to the inhabitants of Positano, who welcomed her joyful and built a temple in her honor near the beach. The name "Positano" would derive from that whisper "Posa". ”

“La Collegiata di Maiori, risalente al XIII secolo, fu edificata sul monte Torina nel punto in cui sorgeva la Rocca di S. Angelo distrutta dai Pisani nel 1137, ampliando una preesistente Chiesa già dedicata a S. Michele Arcangelo scampata miracolosamente alla distruzione, e il cui transetto venne adattato a Basilica per accogliere la statua lignea della Vergine dopo il ritrovamento a mare in una balla di cotone.”
