Trail
“You can park for free on the perimeter or at the Chamber of Commerce and walk around the lake in an hour or so. The local elementary school installed nature information sheets about wild life that live there. You can see beautiful birds and creatures (usually turtles) all year round, especially if there is a bit of sun. This is also a fun place to take little one's for snow play the few times we get more than a foot of snow at this elevation. Do not let your pets drink the water, as far as I know it is being treated and not safe for pets (or consuming the fish). We had a lot of work done on the lake in 2019, and I hope it gets done by summertime!!!”

Trail
“This is about as easy as it gets, there’s no dirt involved either. The fully paved Alpine Pedal Path extends 2.5 miles one way on the North Shore from Stanfield Cutoff to the Solar Observatory (or vice versa). A diversion about halfway through will also take you to the Cougar Crest trail head and the Big Bear Discovery Center. You have options here!”

Trail
“This is a short, easy, circular trail on the north side of the lake that begins and ends at a parking lot. This is a great path to walk after lunch — definitely dog friendly. Note: A $5 US Forest Service parking pass is required to park in the lot, but there is free street parking along Stanfield Cutoff nearby, perfect if you also plan to fish or stroll along the lake.”

“The Cholla Cactus garden is a collection of cholla cactus that spreads out as far as the eye can see in one specific area of the park. There's a short trail that lets you get up close and personal with a cholla cactus, but don't get too close because they're known for jumping cactus for a reason and they will stick to you.”
