“If you're downtown and want real tex-mex (more Mex than Tex: they make great chilaquiles) Mamacita's is a great dine in/take out option. ”

Boulangerie
“Our favorite breakfast bakery downtown, and it is open early. We recommend the Cinnamon Roll for something sweet or the Farmhouse Sandwich for something savory. There are a few parking spots in a lot next to this bakery if you do not want to walk and get there early. They also have a 2nd location just north of downtown.”

“This may be a little bit of a secret spot in Asheville. They do take reservations. Delicious Southern appetizers, small plates and entrees. They are known for their Rum selection, hence the name. ”

“Atmosphere is very Pier One-esque. The food is spicy and the drinks are spicy - thanks, but I hate it. I am lactose-intolerant, but, damn, did I need some milk.”

Épicerie
“Fun, funky health food store in an old building with creaky wood floors. Go here to buy those items you usually go to WholeFoods for because it's LOCAL. Good selection of local organic veggies, health products, and be SURE to go in the back to check out their bulk herbs of every kind and other bulk items. This is one unique place that if I ever moved away I'd really miss. It's downtown across from The Orange Peel and Wicked Weed. ”

“Famous Sammies (aka Ice Cream Sandwich Treats-think cookie or brownie with ice cream in the middle-no white bread here!) Tons of local flavors like chicken and waffles (yes it's an ice cream flavor) or Earl Grey and Lavender. Try a dairy free/Vegan/Gluten Free delightful sammie . Who could ask for more? Welcome to Sunshine Sammies! Spend some time on the South Slope touring breweries, and get a pick me up here with a Sammie or some Espresso...it'll keep you going!”
