“The Sovereign Room gastropub strives for innovation as well as using fresh house-made ingredients wherever possible. Stop by for a pint after work or experience award winning pubfare in a laid-back environment offering a selection of local, craft and import beers. Featured on the Food Network "You Gotta Eat Here" in 2015. Only a 4 minute drive or 20 minute walk from the home.”

Restaurant de barbecue
“You can't beat this place if you are willing to drive. This is where we go for our Anniversary. Great food, great bourbon and beer selection and the most amazing view of Lake Superior. We usually sit on the beach afterwards, find great Lake Superior rocks, and last year there was live music on their deck! My favorite place in the U.P. You have to make a reservation or sit at the bar (we have experienced the bar full too...only about 6 barstools).”

“Thunder Bay's most high profile breakfast spot. Get your basic bacon and eggs or try some unique Finnish cuisine in the bottom of the historic Finnish labour temple. 5-10 minutes walk.”

Pizzeria
“This Upper Peninsula eatery is known for great food (including one-of-a-kind pizza), but that’s not all that sets it apart. The walls are covered in breathtaking murals and the light fixtures glow with bright colors. Don't let its simple exterior fool you: the Ambassador is an absolute must-see. Tostada pizza with their homemade ranch is a personal favorite of ours! I also love the Piña Colada fishbowl especially on a hot Summer night! ”

“Hands down the best in the area. Don’t pass up lamb if it’s on the menu and their burger (lunch only) is my all time fav. There is an upstairs (drinks & appetizers) where you can wait for a table. ”

“As long as you're not on a time frame, the Michigan House is a great option for dining in Calumet. The Michigan House burger or club wrap are delicious options; the fries are cut potatoes and to die for.”

“This is another favorite of ours for breakfast (an egg sandwich on a Asiago bagel) or lunch (soup or chicken salad sandwich on a bagel). If you can snag one of their Raspberry turnovers, you will not be disappointed. Maybe we will even run into each other!”

“You can boat to any of the downtown places and there is always room at the dock. We like to boat to Suomi for breakfast. They have traditional Finnish breakfast items. Coffee is typical diner coffee so not so great, but I usually grab a good coffee at 5th and Elm after breakfast because I am picky.”

Boulangerie
“If you haven't tried a pasty, (It's a meat pie in a crust), this is a great place to try one. They also have sandwich, soup, homemade breads and bakeries. They do have gluten free options for your bread and some bakery. Enjoy some local roasted coffee, tea, or other soft drinks. Dining is all day, and you can sit inside or outside, and watch the boats go by, or, get your order to go, and drive to the L out of the parking lot, towards the Houghton Beach. Lots of picnic tables there. ”
