Sightseeing

The drive to Big Sur from Monterey (about 40 minutes) is along some of the most spectacular coastline in the world. My favorite spot is the River Inn, where you can grab a cappacino and sit on the lovely deck, or have lunch, then go sit on a wooden chair IN the babbling river with an adult beverage and read or just enjoy the sounds of the river. Live music on Sundays in the summer. Dinner by the fireplace at night is very romantic!

Yes, it's touristy, but it has lovely views and delicious food. Grab some "samples" of the famous clam chowder at several of the restaurants. For romantic restaurants, I love Dominico's, Scales, and Fisherman's Grotto (upstairs for the view).

Shopping

Small town, calls itself "America's Last Hometown". Has great restaurants, shopping, and lots of old Victorian homes. Fun to just stroll through town, or the Farmer's Market there on Monday evenings.
