Drinks & Nightlife

My favourite local bars.
Now called Misfits. Excellent bar and restaurant, retro styling, booth seating and a secret room through a bookcase. Stand up comedy on Sunday nights. 'Misfits is your local oasis. A place where suits and Redfern locals come together, where everyone feels comfortable to be who they are. To embrace their inner misfit. Follow the neon lights, mural of 70s icon Twiggy and groovy soundtrack up the staircase to discover a melting pot of locals and visitors, up for a good time.'

Newtown Crawl

Newtown is a diverse, bohemian neighbourhood that bustles with activity day and night. Shoppers head to King Street’s indie bookshops and thrift stores. Hip bars and eateries with multicultural fare cater to locals and University of Sydney students. The Enmore Theatre hosts comedy revues and live music. Restored Victorian buildings and street art, including a mural of Martin Luther King, round out the scene.

Home to Chinese restaurant, Queen Chow, and bars, The Smelly Goat and Zebra Bar, Queens Hotel has your plans sorted for a night out. Start off with afternoon drinks in our downstairs bistro: we have a host of great beers (old and new) to choose from and plenty of great wine. Pull up a seat for a modern-Cantonese feed, care of Queen Chow. Once you’ve had your Chinese hit, bar hop the night away between The Smelly Goat and Zebra Bar. Bet you never knew you needed a pub, restaurant, and cocktail bar hybrid? Now you do.

Beaches

My favourite beach spots.
My top fave go-to swim spot. Gordons Bay is a secluded oasis, hidden north of Coogee Beach and south of Clovelly Beach. It can only be accessed via the Coastal Walkway and parking is available at either Coogee or Clovelly Beach. The beach itself is not nice, if you're looking for sand this isn't for you - the magic happens out on the rocks on either side, where you can swim directly into crystal clear waters. Lots of young people hanging out having a beer and a chat in the sun, super peaceful, beautiful energy. A great spot for snorkelling. You can take a bus to Coogee and walk up from there. Or just take an uber. I recommend access from Clovelly Beach car park if going by car. Take something to eat and drink, there are no shops.

The sweeping white-sand crescent of Bondi is one of Australia’s most iconic beaches. Reliable waves draw surfers while, nearby, hardy locals swim in the Icebergs ocean pool year-round. Trendy, health-conscious Sydneysiders head to laid-back cafes around Hall Street, while hip backpackers frequent the area's casual pubs. The clifftop Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk is a must-do, with its dramatic scenery. You could start in Bondi and finish at Coogee for lunch/dinner, or vice versa. Gordon's Bay is along this walk.
