Things to Do
This is another favorite go-to beach for locals. It is the closest beach and close to town. Drive all the way north up from Rehoboth Ave and the road dead ends at the park. The park is stunning. It has a bike path that goes around the pond and connects to Henlopen State Park in Lewes. A must do. You can also access the beach by just parking in the parking lot (same state park fee) and walking right over the dune to the beach with the famous Gordon’s Pond Towers close enough to touch.
Don’t miss this beach. Or the trail.

Instead of going to Rehoboth Ave or the boardwalk, (parking can be hard to find and expensive) we recommend checking out our favorite beaches.
The Indian River Inlet is about 15 minutes south (a beautiful drive). It has two separate parks. Northside and Southside. They are both state parks so they have large parking lots where you pay a fee for the day.
The Northside is the right hand turn BEFORE the bridge. It is great for surfers, body boarders, skimboarders or to play in the waves. Dogs are allowed. Public restrooms available. Our personal favorite go-to spot. There is a restaurant called “Hammerheads Dockside” that we like to go to after the beach. It is a 5 second drive past the park. Stunning views and great for sunsets. Wonderful food. Don’t miss it if you are down this way.
Southside is another nice option since they have an outdoor restaurant “Big Chill Beach Club” and nice public bathrooms. Dogs are not allowed at Southside.

Tower Road Bayside is my favorite beach for calm bay waters. There is a small parking lot and some picnic tables. I think it’s perfect for young kids if the waves at the beach are too big for them. Perfect for sunsets or dog walks.

This park is huge. You drive past the ferry terminal and enter the park. Keep driving through the meandering roads to see the different sites. There is a fishing pier, a tower that you can climb the stairs to the top of, a museum and then Herring Point is the best for walk-on beach access. There is a jetty where people surf. Trails run throughout for bikes. You can camp here as well.
