Fabulous Art Gallery with collection by European Masters and contemporary British artists. Regular Guided tours and a programme of events and special exhibitions. There’s a big children’s room with lots of interesting and unusual activities, and a cafe and shop.

An hour’s drive away, Filey is an old fashioned beach resort with a lovely beach and the opportunity to walk out on The Brigg, a spit of rock that stretches out into the sea (check tide times as it’s only accessible at low tide)

Lots of independent shops and good places to eat (personal recommendation is Lucia, North Bar Within)

With the North Sea on one side and the river Humber on the other, it’s a very exposed nature reserve with a variety of wildlife, depending on the time of year.

Cognac, an authentic French restaurant on Chanterlands Avenue. Need to book in advance.
Da Gianni on Princes Avenue; highly rated Italian restaurant.
There are Moroccan, Indian, Persian, Greek restaurants as well as many bars also serving food on Princes Avenue.
Newland Avenue also has a wide choice of places to eat including Larkin’s Bar, Sleepers and Craft and Dough (reduced prices on Tuesday and Thursday).
Or if you just fancy Fish and Chips there’s The Friary - a 5 minute walk away. Bring them back, I’ve got plenty of salt and vinegar!
