Kauffman's has the best apple cider and sometimes on Saturdays during the summer, they have an Amish lady making apple cider donuts on the porch and they are warm, sugary and just delicious. It's in Bird-in-Hand--about 5-10 minutes west of Intercourse. They also have lots of regular grocery options, in addition to fresh fruits and vegetables.

This is a bit of drive (it's in the city) but these are probably some of the best doughnuts you can find. Perfect pit stop before strolling around the city. It's very close to F&M college in case you're familiar with the area.

Formerly a speakeasy during the Prohibition, this restaurant is a Lancaster City local favorite. They're known for their amazing cocktails and they also have a variety of games. They don't have a huge food menu, but the horse fries are really good. It tends to get really crowded on weekends, especially during colder weather since they don't have outdoor seating, so you may want to call ahead.

The newest coffee spot in town, this cute little place is a bit more often the beaten path and close to Shady Maple and the Welsh Mountain. They have a drive-through as well as outdoor seating. The coffee and food is delicious and the cozy outdoor dining space makes it the perfect Saturday morning outing. Additional perk: If you're interested in having a deck or outdoor living space installed, Keystone Custom Decks (the owners of the coffee shop) have a great showroom two steps away.

Summer roadside stands

During the summer months, roadside stands in Lancaster County are a dime a dozen. With fresh flowers and all sorts of fresh fruits and vegetables, some even have assortment of handcrafted items such as birdhouses, etc. My personal favorite is black raspberries in June/July because I have never been able to find those at regular grocery stores (aside from a few small local stores). They're delicious!
