Good Food

Our favourite places to eat in the area
Another one of our favourites! Located on the Riverford organic farm just outside Totnes. Great dining experience, the restaurant's focus is on using locally sourced, seasonal, and organic ingredients to create a unique dining experience. The menu changes daily based on ingredient availability and includes vegetarian and meat options, desserts, and organic wines and beers. The restaurant has a rustic atmosphere with communal tables and an open kitchen. It also hosts regular events such as food and wine pairing evenings and farm tours. The restaurant promotes sustainable and ethical farming practices and provides customers with a deeper understanding of the farm and its practices. Booking ahead advised.

A favourite of ours (when we have a babysitter! No kids in the evening allowed here). Located on Totnes high street, Gather offers a fine dining experience based on their ethos of using locally and ethically sourced ingredients. Between 6and 7pm they offer the early bird menu of 3 courses for £35 or alternately, Half and Full Tasting menus are served later. Always a treat to eat here

Another place we love, right on the river at Stoke Gabriel, 15 minutes up the road. Lovely breakfasts, brunches and lunches as well evening meals. Truly great place. Crabbing nets available in the cafe and lots of fun to be had crabbing by the reservoir and river. Perfect place ot bring your SUP too or you can hire Kayaks in the summer months. We keep a small inflatable dinghy in the boat yard here and there's few other places we enjoy as much.

The Dartington Estate is a must if you are in the area. The estate was once owned by progressive philanthropists who cultivated the arts and sustainability. Once home to a famous art school too. There are many exciting events hosted here including concerts, theatre and club nights. The Barn Cinema and Green Table Cafe are also popular. About a 20-30 minute walk from the flat up a decent hill but on-site paid parking available if driving.

We love this Cinema. Truly independent, showing mainstream as well as art house films. Seating arrangements make you feel like you are in a jazz club when watching a film, with traditional cinema seating upstairs if preferred. Opens as a cafe on an afternoon, which is also a lovely place to relax.

So much to do on the River Dart but my favourite is to Wild Swim. There are precautions that should be taken, especially after heavy rain so if you are inexperienced it is best not to attempt. A great wild swim spot is located a short walk from the flat and is very popular. If you have a SUP, it is also the perfect place to launch and explore up river towards the Dartington Estate. Search maps for 'Totnes - River Dart landing stage' to find or contact us

Beaches

One of our favourite beaches. National Trust car park means free parking for members and it’s right next to beach. Great for kids as there are no waves and when tide is low, there’s hours of fun to be had on the rock pools.
