Popular for photographs, the famous Whalebone Arch marks the start of the west cliff, the beach below was awarded a blue flag in 2019. For those who don't fancy the steep walk down you can use the lift half way along the cliff top or access the beach from Pier Road at the bottom of the whalebone steps.

When the tide is out you can enjoy a lovely walk along the beach to Sandsend, it takes between 45 minutes and an hour. Enjoy a drink or lunch in Sandsend and you'll still have time to walk back. If not there's a bus stop in Sandsend that will bring you back to Whitby.

For Harry Potter fans or Heartbeat, the small village and train station were both used in the filming of these. There's a few shops and cafes but not a huge amount to do but lots of moorland to explore.

You can hire a rowing boat and row along the river for a leisurely afternoon break. Steam locomotives also pass through the village station. And there’s a miniature steam railway for children to enjoy. https://www.discoveryorkshirecoast.com/Whitby-Ruswarp/details/?dms=3&venue=1716627#

You can walk along the old railway line to Robin Hoods Bay. The 7 mile route takes about two hours. You can also walk along the cliff top but this is a safer option in my opinion! Start your route from behind Pannett Park at the top of Flowergate. https://www.scarborough.gov.uk/sites/scarborough.gov.uk/files/The-Cinder-Track-Leaflet.pdf
