Crammed with beautiful Georgian architecture. Really pretty street. Look out for the blue plaques on many of the buildings to mark the houses of famous authors, actors, poets and artists. The architectural and historic importance of the Middle Street Deal Conservation Area has long been recognised. In 1968 it was the first Conservation Area in Kent to be designated and since that time the boundary has been extended three times. Its distinctive character is typified by the central axis of mainly Georgian terraced houses clustered around Middle Street; changing as you move towards Deal Castle, to grander Victorian villas.

So much more than a just great view, the lighthouse is the scene for early scientific inventions and groundbreaking experiments as well as a home of five generations of the same lighthouse keeping family. When you visit, bear in mind that's there's no parking at the lighthouse - we suggest you park at our White Cliffs of Dover Visitor Centre, and enjoy the coastal path walk to the lighthouse. There is a quintessentially English tea room here (Mrs Knotts tea room) for gorgeous cakes and soups. In summer the kids can hire kits for £1. The views are truly amazingly beautiful.

Howletts Wild Animal Park (formerly known as Howletts Zoo) was set up as a private zoo in 1957 by John Aspinall near Canterbury, Kent. The animal collection was opened to the public in 1975. To give more room for the animals another estate at Port Lympne near Hythe, Kent was purchased in 1973, and opened to the public as Port Lympne Zoo in 1976. The collection is known for being unorthodox, for the encouragement of close personal relationships between staff and animals, and for their breeding of rare and endangered species. Steve Irwin visited the park in 2004 and described the park's gorillas as "the finest in the world".
