The only hiking trail I know of within range of the city, you can actually get deep enough in here to see no buildings at all, only sloping away paths and big trees. There's a section of entirely pines planted in the 1920s.

Best playground around--different kinds of equipment, a grassy area for kicking the ball around, basketball courts, and nice view of Manhattan. An old mostly Jewish graveyard is around the corner.
