About 40 miles north of inverness, this a stunner right beside the golf course. Old Gaol shop and cafe has lovely quality gifts and Dornoch is a lovely village to wander round including old cathedral. I always visit the Anta Pottery in Fearn to make a full day trip.

Fancy a decent mountain walk during your stay? This is the one! There is a mountain trail round route from the car park by the loch that takes 3-4 hours - or you can branch off and bag yourself the Munro. Breathtaking views over torridon.

If you’re looking for something less challenging, this is a straightforward uphill walk that takes about an hour with great views and an unusual monument at the top. The Storehouse restaurant is a good post walk food stop.
