Definitely worth taking the Calmac ferry as a foot passenger from Tarbert to Portavadie in Cowal and walking the 10 minute walk to this St Tropez style marina restaurant which is remarkably affordable for such chic and glamorous surroundings. Tie it in with a trip to the incredible spa for the ultimate Argyll high life experience! (infinity outdoor pool and wonderful indoor pool facilities with the world’s best sauna view- best to book a slot well in advance)

Sightseeing

Just a 15 min drive from the cottage to the ferry at Tayinloan and the short 20 minute crossing to the paradise island of Gigha with its beaches of white sand and turquoise sea. You could easily mistake it for Barbados , that is until you stick your toes in the water… it also boasts a Michelin recommended seafood restaurant and bike/kayak hire. A magical place and it would be a crime not to visit Gigha.

A delightful wee fishing village which is mercifully real and none too “chocolate boxy”. It’s a great place to sit and watch the fishing boats coming in and out and there are a couple of great places to buy fish as well as some nice shops,a great cafe with homemade Italian ice-cream (Cafe ca’dora) as well as a smattering of nice restaurants. There’s a jolly handy Co-op supermarket which is well stocked contrary to its diminutive size.

A great day out can be had at Torrisdale Castle with its famous sculpture of a man staring out to sea, taking a guided tour of its Gin Distillery or exploring the grounds of the castle.

A very picturesque little harbour with its small fishing fleet, stunning views across the Sound of Arran and the wonderful Carradale Bay with wide stretch of sandy beach to the south is perfect for walks and swims in shallow waters.

The Crinan Canal, which links Ardrishaig on Loch Fyne with Crinan on the west coast. But “Britain's most beautiful shortcut” isn’t just for puffers, kayaks and yachts. Walkers, cyclists and joggers enjoy it too.

Golf

Kintyre is a golfer’s Paradise being home to the world famous Machrihanish Golf Club but also boasts a number of other fantastic courses which are equally good if less well known and more affordable
One of the world’s best golf courses, consistently appearing in the top 100 - and certainly the most remote is just half an hour’s drive away

Kintyre Seafood Trail

On a sunny day there is nowhere I’d rather be than here eating simple but perfectly cooked and wonderfully fresh seafood in this most spectacular setting sandwiched between a magnificent castle and the sea with and the majestic mountains of Arran as a backdrop. Hens and ducks walk round the tables. It really is a bucolic dream.

An exquisite seafood restaurant on the Isle of Gigha with seating indoors and outdoors. It’s situated next to a lovely little beach and a bay where visiting yachties moor their craft. Utterly delightful and well worth a visit.
