City/town information

"Find your happy place in Traverse City. It’s where a detour from the ordinary always yields a new adventure. Where the road stretches ahead, weaving through a vibrant forest, a charming downtown, or a rolling vineyard. No matter how you explore, you know you’re in a pretty great place." Traverse City is 1.5 hours from Lakeview Landing. I would recommend a day trip to Traverse City and even up the east side of Michigan extending into Leelanau County (wine country). Traverse City (TC) is well known for its shopping, eateries, and cherry festival. Both TC and Leelanau County are two of the centers of wine production in the Midwest. TC features varied natural attractions, including freshwater beaches, vineyards, a National Lakeshore, downhill skiing areas, and numerous forests. Favorite Places in TC to Visit: 1.). Milk & Honey Ice Cream (240 E Front St, Traverse City, MI 49684) BEST ICE CREAM AROUND! 2.) Pangea's Pizza (135 E Front St, Traverse City, MI 49684) 3.) The Omelette Shop (124 Cass St, Traverse City, MI 49684) BEST breakfast in town. 4.) Petosky Pretzel Company (102 S Union St, Traverse City, MI 49684)

One of the most popular destinations in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! Cross over the might Mackinac Bridge and board a ferry to Mackinac Island, where there are no mortared vehicles and everyone travels by way of foot, horse, or bikes. Mackinac Island is an island and resort area, covering 4.35 square miles (11.3 km2) in land area, in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located in Lake Huron, at the eastern end of the Straits of Mackinac, between the state's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The island was long home to an Odawa settlement and previous indigenous cultures before European colonization began in the 17th century. It was a strategic center of the fur trade around the Great Lakes. Based on a former trading post, Fort Mackinac was constructed on the island by the British during the American Revolutionary War. It was the site of two battles during the War of 1812 before the northern border was settled and the US gained this island in its territory. In the late 19th century, Mackinac Island became a popular tourist attraction and summer colony. Many of the structures on the island have undergone extensive historical preservation and restoration. Because of its historic significance, the entire island is listed as a National Historic Landmark. It is well known for numerous cultural events; a wide variety of architectural styles, including the Victorian Grand Hotel, and its ban on almost all motor vehicles. More than 80 percent of the island is preserved as Mackinac Island State Park. Stop by to get some famous Mackinaw island fudge or taffy! **Mackinac Island is 1.5 hours from Lakeview Landing! You must cross the Mackinac Bridge to get to Mackinac Island (it only costs a few dollars). Once you cross the bridge the Island is just a short ferry ride away. The island does not have motorized vehicles and travel is via horse, bike, or foot!

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a United States National Lakeshore located along the northwest coast of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan in Leelanau and Benzie counties near Empire, Michigan. The park covers a 35-mile-long (56 km) stretch of Lake Michigan's eastern coastline, as well as North and South Manitou islands. This Northern Michigan park was established primarily because of its outstanding natural features, including forests, beaches, dune formations, and ancient glacial phenomena. The lakeshore also contains many cultural features including the 1871 South Manitou Island Lighthouse, three former stations of the Coast Guard (formerly the Life-Saving Service) and an extensive rural historic farm district. In 2011, the area won the title of "The Most Beautiful Place in America" from Good Morning America. You can drive through the entire park and get out at certain locations that interest you! **Located 2 hours from Lakeview Landing. Can be combined with a day trip to Traverse City!

Kayak or take a boat tour to see all it has to offer. Located outside of Munising, MI! "Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore hugs the south shore of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It's known for the dramatic multicolored Pictured Rocks cliffs. Unusual sandstone formations like Miners Castle and Chapel Rock define the park’s headlands. Twelvemile Beach has a trail through a nearby white birch forest. Remnants of shipwrecks dot the shoreline around Au Sable Point’s 19th-century lighthouse."
