It's a famous farmers' market every Saturday with the Scarab and Mosaic markets alongside. Go very early in season to get there ahead of your fellow tourists! We buy our fresh vegetables and free-range chicken and eggs there

Our favourite restaurant. We go once a week. It's Italian, with all the food cooked by owner-chef Steve, assisted by his lovely wife Leah. Try get a table served by Alain (aka Loopy the Pirate). Tell them you're staying at our place - you won't get a discount but they'll appreciate it.

You can walk from Swartvlei Beach to Gericke's point. It's a great walk with rock pools and views. To get there, take the road at the bottom of the hill on the Wilderness side of Swartvlei (by Sedgefield Links golf course)

Take the Buffelsbaai turn-off from the N2. It's about 12kms from Sedgefield on the way to Knysna. Watch out for Goukamma National Park entrance on your right. There are braai and picnic facilities, but we go there mainly to walk the marvellous Bushpig Trail. It's easy other than a short uphill bit near the beginning. You start with a pont ride over the river, go up the hill to your right, into a deep and dark milkwood forest with amazing plant life, and then along a stretch of beach and coastal scrub. These are all different vegetation areas.

This is our secret beach! About 8kms down a good, smooth gravel road, very few people go there, even in the height of season. The road is next to the lake on the Sedgefield side. Keep going past the lake until you get to the beach.
Dogs are allowed off-leash to the right of the stairs that lead to the beach - to the left is a protected breeding area of the endangered Black Oystercatcher. Going to the right, you can walk 2.5kms with your dogs to Cola Beach in Sedgefield. Without dogs you can walk an extra 500m and have coffee or a meal at Pili Pili at Myoli Beach

For something completely different, go and see this Rastafarian community. They'll take you on a tour of their art and tell you a lot about the Rasta culture. Try get Brother Zebulon as your guide - he's a qualified SA Tour Guide but also a crazy, hilarious guy.
