The John H. Kerr Reservoir was built by the Army Corp. of Engineers in 1952 and created Buggs Island Lake, the largest lake in Virginia with almost 50,000 acres at full pool and 800 miles of shore line. A visitor center is off Virginia State Hwy 4, a short 24 mile drive.
