Food scene

This is one of the first restaurants I ventured into when I moved here and it's become a favorite for a few reasons: it's local and right around the corner; the menu is great, including a gluten-free menu; it has a nice outdoor seating area; it's about a mile away so you can walk, ride a bike or even drive. It's also right next to the neighborhood Starbucks and a car wash. It's a place where people get to know your name and welcome you back when they see you again. No delivery, but you can order by phone, and pick up dinner on your way home!

My daughter took me here when I was considering my move and I just love everything about this place. The food is creative, fresh, and not too expensive. It's also creatively designed and I've honestly never eaten inside because their outdoor space is so wonderful. It's just got a great vibe. It's in mid-town Phoenix, which gets more interesting by the day, so if you decide to venture into the city, I highly recommend a stop here. They have suffered a bit during the pandemic, as they used to be open for lunch and dinner, but have returned to a dinner only menu.

This little place became my go-to in the heat of the pandemic (has that changed?) They're nearby-- I rode my bike here often; their service is great, and while you might consider this fast food, it's well done with fresh ingredients. Whether you eat-in or not definitely shifts based on everyone's comfort level, but there are a few tables if you want to. They have the quickest delivery ever through door dash-- as they're always at my door within about 15 minutes regardless of what it says on the app. So, if you just don't want to go out, are having a lazy day, thought you might want to cook but changed your mind-- make this your go to! They're also conveniently located near the local supermarket (Fry's). Plenty of days I picked up my groceries and some dumplings to go.

Way before my neighborhood became a suburb of metro Phoenix, it was filled with farms, ranches and taco shacks. This one has stood the test of time and I love it here--it's just a few miles down the road, and very close to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airport. You can eat inside, but I love sitting outside at one of the picnic tables in the sand. (Indoor seating flows with pandemic guidelines). This is a perfect place to enjoy solo: they make bonfires in the cooler months when I've sat by the fire and just watched the full moon rise; I've also brought my grandkids here so they can just run around and play while we enjoy our tacos. And there's just nothing here to empty your wallet! This is solid authentic Arizona food and ambience right here--eclectic crowd and adult beverages too!

This is a wonderful restaurant in downtown Gilbert that is housed in what was once the town's supermarket. It has a great story, and even better food. Make sure you go when you have the time to spend just walking around these few blocks of downtown. Look for the water tower as you approach; it's a real landmark. This was one of the few places open when I started visiting my daughter several years ago. Downtown Gilbert has really taken off, so don't be surprised if you find a line when you get there. It's worth the wait, or just get there early! Great indoor and outdoor eating areas.

Déplacements

You really need a car to get around metro Phoenix

I spent my first year here in Gilbert without a car so it can be done! Everything you need is also a bicycle ride away-- all within about two miles. That said, to really enjoy all this area has to offer, it's great to have a car. Most would consider it a must. You can park in my driveway, so no need to worry about parking and the neighborhood is super safe.
Que faut-il apporter?

This is the desert! It gets super hot and pretty cold!

People tend to think it's just always hot here, but the truth is, it's a true desert climate so the nights can get pretty cool. The days are quite different from the nights except in the extreme summer months. The temperature changes drastically from morning to afternoon to evening. I liken it to going through all four seasons in a day. In the morning, you may want a jacket, but by noon, you'll be glad you're wearing a t-shirt if only for an hour or two before you grab that jacket again. In the summer, scrap that and just drink as much water as possible whenever you can and find AC!
