Classic Durham spot for breakfast or lunch with sister location in Chapel Hill. Sit outside with a friend or a book. No Internet and not good for dinner. Known for its shop with tons of little treats, wines, local foods, etc.

I haven't put many downtown places on here because there are just too many good spots, but this is my favorite lunch place in Durham. Get the crostini with the side salad!

Not many people know that this is a perfect spot to get a great local (Counter Culture) coffee & treat and sit and work in peace and quiet. You'll be one of the only ones there during the day, though I think it now turns into a restaurant later in the day. The rooftop bar is also iconic. During cold months they have wool blankets and part of the rooftop is sectioned off with heaters.

Entertainment & Activities

I think this theater (which I have gone to all my life!) was recently bought by AMC and is being turned into one of their theaters with a bar, food, etc. I'm guessing that means prices are going up too. Until recently it's been our go-to theater with cheap tickets, mostly empty, and right around the corner.
