Neighborhoods

Indianola (< 10 min drive) offers a 900-foot pier and friendly country store (homemade blueberry muffins served hot and buttered, breakfast burritos, sandwiches and daily specials and soups). Take your goodies to the pavilion next door or down to the beach (but don't linger on the residents-only area at the base of the beach stairs). En route back to Miller Bay stop off at the Indianola Waterfront Preserve for a short forest walk to another sandy beach, or walk the spit, lined by fancy homes. On the Sound side their back yards are mostly beach, on the Bay side their back yards are mostly dock, so the front yards are profusely landscaped.

Food scene

Great spot for fish&chips, burgers, pasta, etc. Only 1.5 miles from Cedar Mar. Features a large covered patio with wide views and space heaters for those chillier evenings. Once a dive bar, Sully's has upped its culinary game significantly, while keeping prices reasonable.

Poulsbo: a former fishing village settled by Scandinavian immigrants, now a quaint and quirky downtown with restored Victorian commercial buildings with many shops and restaurants, and a busy marina during boating season. A boardwalk takes walkers from the waterfront north through a quiet park.
