Arts & Culture

Las Carboneras is a great place to see flamenco. I would recommended as an place of arts and entertainment because that is what flamenco is. But also a bar and restaurant. Reservations.

Drinks & Nightlife

One of the oldest taverns that has not changed, with great Manzanilla, Fino, etc. Order Mojama (like Spanish ham, but made out of Tuna, delicious) to go with your wine. Tips not accepted, house policy

Actually there are a couple of cafes right there, not 100% sure I mean this one, but there is one that has seating outdoors right next to and sort of under the Bridge accross the calle Segovia. One has to walk down some winding stairs. Nice for sitting around having drinks at night, in the past, they used to take trays of fruit around the tables free of charge, which is very nice on hot nights.

A lovely square with no traffic, and quite a few restaurants, all with an outdoor area weather permitting. There is a rose garden at the bottom of the square, private but open to the public some hours

Sunday flea and antiques market. Ends at about 2:30 - 3 pm. More interesting going down and to the right into the side streets. The map places it incorrectly, it starts underneath our house.

Excellent place for ladies to get their hair done, probably the best in Madrid if you make a reservation with the owner.

A very authentic, hearty but not fancy, Asturian restaurant. Hard to get a table on weekends and even during the week, but worth it if you like hearty food. The portions are enormous.

Haven´t been there in a while, but used to be quite good. Has outdoor seating as well, in a slightly out-of-the way place (no cars) pretty close to our house. Reservations are advisable, particularly at night.

Iconic old restaurant for those who like snails, made the Spanish way (actually there are a few). Still around after all these years. Mostly a stand-up at the counter affair for a snack sort of situation. A few other traditional dishes, not for all. Just accross and a bit down the square from our house. Please keep in mind that most places that are called something like "old tavern", including the "Cerveceria Antigua" on our square, have popped up only a couple of years ago (or less), and are not at all old or traditional, and usually quite awful, concevied to lure in tourists and make a quick buck.
