Great food, but you need to book! It's a pub/restaurant, Thai food and a good atmosphere in pub area. Great outdoor seating area if it's a nice day.
They can normally accommodate but don't do drop in meals.

Catch the ferry over to Hengistbury Head, on the far side there's a land train if you don't fancy the walk. Both are cash only.
Even if you just cross for the golden beaches behind the beach huts on the spit it's worth the fee. Dogs welcomed on the ferry!

Parks & Nature
Great views, great ice cream, a large lawn area and seating.
Historical tours if you are so inclined. It's free to walk around the grounds and leads to many walks along the coast. A bit quieter than Avon Beach but some fairly steep steps if you do want to get to the beach.
There is a ramp down..

'The' best beach. Dog friendly in areas, tourist friendly, shallow waters, BBQ's in the evening, great views of the moonrise over the Isle of Wight.
If you're going to swim, head further east past the lifeguard hut for the safest waters.
