Distances to Beaches in Midcoast Maine from our home.
Rockland Area: Chickawaukie Lake Beach-A small sanding beach with a lake that is warm enough to swim in. 5 minutes from our home. South End Beach Located in the South End of Rockland off of Ocean Street near Archer’s on the Pier is a shell haven when the tide is out. 10 minutes from our home. Johnson Memorial Park Located on Chickawaukie Lake in Rockland, Maine, this small freshwater beach and park offers free parking and easy access. There is a picnic area with barbecue grills, restrooms and a public boat launch. Owls Head Area: Ash Point Beach Seated at the corner of the West Penobscot Bay entry, this small sand and rock beach has great views of the Gulf of Maine including Dix Island Harbor, Vinalhaven and North Haven. There is very limited parking, with no facilities or lifeguards on duty. 15 minutes from our home. Lucia Beach/Birch Point State Beach Located on a small peninsula in Owls Head, on the shores of Penobscot Bay. This scenic hideaway tends to attract locals more than visitors, offering a quiet retreat for those who would like to relax or try beach-combing or shore fishing for mackerel and bass. The sandy beach, known as Lucia Beach, has great views of offshore islands. Nearby Owls Head and Rockland are home to a lighthouse, shops, museums, galleries, and restaurants. 19 minutes from our home. Crescent Beach This crescent shaped beach is another beautiful beach near Owls Head Light, though lined with beach cottages and not as private as Birch Point State Park, it offers the largest salt water sand beach in the area. The views of Penobscot Bay and the outlying islands are spectacular from Crescent Beach. Several parking spots at the end of Crescent Beach Road. 14 minutes from our home. Crockett’s Beach This small beach can be found off Ash Point Drive at the end of Crocketts Beach Road. There is no official parking at this beach nor lifeguards or facilities. 15 minutes from our home. Owl’s Head Lighthouse Beach-19 minutes from our home. Camden Area: Laite Beach Park Located on Bay View Street about 1/2 mile from the middle of downtown. It overlooks Camden's outer harbor and Curtis Island. Amenities include: toilets and changing rooms, a large open gently sloping lawn, a children's amphitheater, a swingset for toddlers, picnic tables, barbecues, a protected saltwater beach with coarse sand, and a swim float a few yards offshore. As with all Camden beaches there is no lifeguard on duty. Between May 1st and September 30th pets are only allowed in the park and on the beach from 6 AM to 8 AM and from 6 PM to 10 PM. 28 minutes from our home. Barrett's Cove Located on Lake Megunticook on Beaucaire Ave. near the intersection with Route 52. This freshwater beach and park has been a favorite destination for swimmers, picnicers, canoers and kayakers for many years. Amenities include: changing rooms, portable toilets, open lawn and shady areas with picnic tables and barbecues, a sandy and gently sloping beach, and a deep water swim float. There is no lifeguard on duty. Pets are restricted during the summer as indicated with Laite Beach. 23 minutes from our home. Shirt Tail Point This little gem of a park is a favorite of locals in the Millville section of town. It is located on Washington Street about 1.75 miles from downtown. Amenities include: a portable toilet, lawn, picnic tables and barbecues, and a gently sloping access to a deep and slow moving section of the Megunticook River. The bottom of the river here is sandy but above the high water mark there is only lawn. Pets are restricted during the summer as indicated at the beaches above, but you may need to shoo off some Canada geese to spread out your blanket on the lawn if you are the first to arrive for the day. Hand launched canoes and kayaks can gain access to the deep and slow moving section of the river above Seabright Dam from this park. 18 minutes from our home. Rockport Area: Walker Park A small harbor park that offers access to the saltwater. There’s an area with a children’s playground, picnic tables, a grassy hillside knoll and fire pits with barbeque grills. At low tide there is a sandy beach area for wading and beachcombing for sea shells. 12 minutes from our home. Goodies Beach A pocket beach located on the harbor in Rockport to the right of the Harbor Master. 14 minutes from our home. Glen Cove Beach Next to the Glen Cove Rest Area in Glen Cove is a small saltwater beach at the foot of the basin. The beach looks out onto Glen Cove and offers saltwater swimming in a relatively protected oceanfront setting at high tide. At low tide, the beach is a great place to explore the mud flats for sea shells, crabs, urchins, snails and sand dollars. Lincolnville Area: Lincolnville Beach Located in Lincolnville sits right off of U.S. Route 1 just 7 miles from downtown Camden and offers a small sandy strip of beach head for swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. You can also try out sea kayaking at Lincolnville Beach. The beach sits right next to several restaurants, gift shops and businesses and is home to the Islesboro State of Maine Ferry service. 25 minutes from our home. Ducktrap Beach Small sand bar beach down Howe Point Road which is on your right if heading north up Rt 1 after Lincolnville Beach. 28 minutes from our home. Port Clyde Area: Drift-In Beach This is a nice beach between Martinsville and Port Clyde, not far away from the Marshall Point Light. It's a great place for swimming, picnicing, exploring or a nice walk. 30 minutes from our home.
If you have small children, Chickawaukie is a nice little sandy beach on a lake with warmer water than the ocean beaches. All of the other beaches are lovely however, but the water may be cooler.
