Sightseeing
A lot of fun to be found in this area! (see below) Park the car on Main Street and Go to the fly fishing store, (https://www.driftlessangler.com), go to the yarn store (amazing she manages the whole process), have some pizza or ice cream at Franks, go to the galerie, and go to the rock shop !! A must. Driftless Cafe is the best place for lunch or dinner and they even have bands at times- best local organic food. Check out the Renovated old and beautiful theater schedule too! On a rainy day, go see a movie and check out the tractor supply store, they have little animals... or go to the antique shop next to it and discover old Native American treasure. Watch the video about Viroqua https://youtu.be/rMZXzTLtwcg

1) Go to the farmer and Amish market on Saturday morning. 2) Go to the organic valley store - a must do! Best small selection of gourmet and organic food. 3) have dinner at Blue Goose pizza - middle of no where - largest pizza and ice creams in an old barn - outside downtown- very scenic drive 4) Couple antique shops on main to see as well as the 5) visitor center on Main Street 6) Finally a must go to the KVR for day/hours hikes for little ones or no kids. Ask at the visitor center and they will recommend the trails. We recommend Black Hawk rock (tallest point in the area on a beautiful rock formation, great for kids too:) Just ask the local park ranger or KVR staff for assistance with directions.

If you are coming for several days, to ski (down hill) or visiting, plenty to do in lacrosse and the Mississippi River is beautiful! 40mn away or so..

Fishing
Trout fishing in Weister, Warner, and Billings Creeks has become more popular due to stream restoration efforts and improvement in water quality. The Kickapoo River is also known to have its share of anglers. https://www.driftlessangler.com offers awesome fishing classes and guided trips and of course have the expertise and the supplies you may need,

Canoe - Kayak
More at http://kvr.state.wi.us/Recreation/Canoe-Kayak The Kickapoo River has been a favorite among canoeists for many years. The word "Kickapoo" is from the Native American Algonquian language, meaning "he who goes here, then there". Translated locally as the "crooked river", it certainly lives up to its name, meandering its way along a 125-mile course that covers only 65 miles "as the crow flies." The shallow, gently flowing river is tame enough for the beginner but scenic enough for the advanced paddler as well. The upper stretch of the river from Ontario to La Farge is arguably the most beautiful, if not the most accessible for the public to enjoy. I recommend to go to Ontario and book your trip with Drifty, https://www.driftyscanoerental.net/

Hiking
http://kvr.state.wi.us/Recreation/Trails/Hiking-Trails/ The best way to experience the Reserve is on foot. Three hiking-only trails are currently maintained within the Reserve: an approximate one-mile loop starts and ends at the Visitor Center while extending down to Old 131 Trail, another approximately one-mile loop goes up to an overlook located about four miles north of La Farge just east of Highway 131, and a two-mile trail stretches from Winchel Valley Road to County Highway F at the Reserve's northern end. The visitor center loop extends down a west-facing hill with railroad tie steps, easing navigation of steep sections. The trail to the overlook is a moderate challenge to hike, while the northern trail is fairly rugged and includes a stream crossing; be prepared to get your feet wet. Hikers are not limited to the hiking-only trails, however. You are welcome to try the 14 miles of mountain bike trails, the 37 miles of equestrian trails maintained within the Reserve, or the 4.5 mile Old 131 multi-use trail. The mountain bike trails are mowed to a minimum 10-foot width several times during the season, so are more easily traversed than the unmowed and rugged equestrian trails. Since the mountain bike trails double as snowmobile trails in winter, there are also bridges in place over stream crossings wherever they occur; the equestrian trails go through streams. If unsure of the terrain, check the Reserve map or speak with someone in the Reserve Visitor Center before venturing out. Permits are required for use of the Reserve.

Golfing
3 golf courses but not tested ...sorry 1) Viroqua Hills Golf Course - 20mnn away - beautiful drive through the valley. Viroqua Hills Golf Course is tucked away amongst lush, rolling hills in the heart of Vernon County. Originally opened in 1930 as a public nine-hole course, and another nine was added in 1996, bringing the length to over 6,300 yards. The original nine, holes 1-3 and 13-18, has a traditional design that plays across wooded hills. Getting to the new nine requires crossing through a tunnel where on the other side, two ponds and a waterfall await you. Both nines have a distinct character but they both feature undulating greens and wide fairways lined with mature pine, oak, and birch trees. There are also sand traps bordering the greens on 14 holes and the fairways on six holes. The 11th is Viroqua Hills Golf Course's signature hole, known for the scenic view from its elevated tee box perched 100 feet above the fairway. 2) Snowflake Ski & Golf Club - 25 mn away - https://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=7872&mode=ci 3) The Pines Disc Golf Course - 30mn away - 4) Fox Hollow Golf Course - 60 mn away - Cashton https://www.foxhollowgolfandbanquets.com/
