If you are interested in a really great place to eat, we have a restaurant in town that has been featured on the food network. 459 E Main Street, Franklin, NC 28734 Open 11-9 Wednesday-Saturday. Cash only no reservations. It is connected to the Hot Spot gas station but they serve amazing dishes. We have eaten there several times. In fact we have met people who come from Asheville to eat here. Their prices are reasonable with a lot of options on the menu.

Regarding a restaurant, if you use the Yelp app, enter Bryson City location. I think you would like The Bistro at the Everitt Hotel. They’re open 4:30-9:00 pm Wednesday- Sunday. Bryson City is about 27 minutes away. Recommended to call for reservations. You can see menus on Yelp.

We love eating here outdoors or under the gazebo itself. It’s a great place to relax for lunch of soups, sandwiches or salads. We jokingly say that we have this restaurant as a line item in our monthly budget. Gazebo Creekside Cafe 44 Heritage Hollow Drive, Franklin, NC 28734 Open 10:30-3:00 Monday-Sunday

We often eat here for breakfast after seeing our doctor in Clayton, GA. Their omelettes are outstanding and the Hawaiian Bread French Toast is exceptional. We have enjoyed lunch here too. We always enjoy going here with friends and especially with children. It’s so impressive to be able to safely walk behind the Falls and sense the awesome power and beauty. There is also an overlook for those who just don’t want to or can’t walk down the pathway to the falls. There are lots of other falls and rapids on this road with beautiful overlooks. Take Hwy 64 out of Franklin towards Highlands.

We have done the train excursion several times. One goes from Bryson City to Dillsboro with a stopover long enough to shop at a host neat shops including pottery shops and some restaurants. Then returns to Bryson City. The other one goes from Bryson City through the Nantahala Gorge and along the Nantahala Lake and dam and stops over at the Nantahala Outdoor Center where you can eat or picnic or you could combine that excursion with a white water rafting trip. The train then travels back to Bryson City. With price of the excursion, each person gets a free ticket to the train museum where there are multiple working train layouts. There are also special trips like mystery excursions but you would have to check with them at: https://m.gsmr.com/ We have a DVD at the cabin about the railroad and brochures.

Wayah Bald is a high-altitude treeless open area in Nantahala National Forest, near Franklin, North Carolina. The Wayah Bald Observation Tower is located at the area's highest point (5,385 feet); the stone observation tower was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937 for fire detection. The Appalachian Trail and Bartram Trail cross at Wayah Bald. Wayah Bald is a popular destination for hikers, especially during Spring, when the rhododendron and azaleas are in bloom. We have driven here several times which about a 1 hr from our cabin. The drive along Wayah Rd passes through gorgeous views of streams and mountain cottages. There are picnic tables and bathrooms near the parking area.
