The Arvalem Caves or the “Pandava Caves”. are located in the Bicholim town of North Goa. These caves are ancient rock cut caves whose origin dates back to the 6th century. As legend has it, the Pandavas of the epic Mahabharata had sought refuge in these caves during their exile. The presence of five compartments and Shivlingas in the cave complex supports this theory. However, the caves have also been claimed to be of Buddhist origin due to presence of a huge statue of Buddha near the place. The architectural style of the caves also point to Buddhist possession. You decide. (30 mins drive from our house)

Once every year, the Olive Ridley Turtles found off Goa’s coast, head to the shore for nesting. Morjim, Galgibag and Agonda beaches see the most nestings. The turtles lay hundreds of eggs. On hatching, the hatchlings head back to sea. The entire process takes place under the careful watch of conservationists who ensure no one can cause the turtles any harm. Do try and catch this spectacle unfold the next time you are in Goa. Best time is between November & April.
