Fig is at the Miramar hotel. One of the best local restaurants, it is named for the huge old courtyard fig tree. Sit by the pool and watch the sunset. Get there between 5 and 6 pm your drinks and meal is half price

The chef, Jamie Foxx, won the James Beard award in 2015. Be sure to make a reservation, especially on weekends although you can sometimes be seated at the bar without one. The food is seasonal and delicious. I like to bring friends from out of town here.

Definitely a contender for best coffee in Santa Monica, but if it's not to your liking there is a Starbuck's across the street! If the excellent coffee isn't enough to lure you, it can be good for celebrity spotting as well.

Happy hour 4-6 on weekdays. I like to sit on the patio and order $5 tacos, guacamole and chips and a hibiscus agua fresca. You might prefer a margarita. If you can't sit on the patio, request seating in the nest. Best restaurant within walking distance of the Pied-a-Terre. Highly recommended for dinner too.

The closest beach access tunnel we locals use is at the Ocean Way/Mabery Rd corner. You'll see a set of stairs between two houses that looks like it goes down to PCH that takes you to the tunnel.

A lovely little park that you can walk to from the apartment. The Rec Center is historic. It was the Uplifters' Clubhouse in the 1920s. There are gorgeous mid-century homes surrounding the park.

About a 10 minute drive up PCH. I prefer the Getty on the hill to the Villa, but the ocean view from the Terrace Restaurant is mesmerizing. The collection is all about Greek and Roman antiquities.

Wonderful place to hike. Murphy Ranch was supposedly a Nazi stronghold during WW2. Ruins of the ranch buildings are still visible, and an elaborate gate, stream and small waterfall. Challenging stairs

Go to USC, DTLA, Hollywood (Red Line), or Pasadena (Gold Line) on the Metro trains. There is parking at the 17th and Colorado station, which is also less crowded. See the Hollywood sign and Observatory from the window!
