A Cambridge institution! Makers of incredible Chelsea Buns and delicious cakes but Fitzbillies also do great brunches and lunches (good for vegetarians and vegans). The Trumpington Street venue is much bigger and is like a tardis out the back. There's another Fitzbillies on Bridge Street as well. Booking is highly recommended While Fitzbillies can't open for seated dining, from their location on STrumpington Street you can walk 5 mins down to the river, down Mill Lane which sits right at the Scudamore punt station. Cambridge people love to sit out on the grass and picnic and watch the punting efforts! The Mill pub is on the corner as well as The Anchor and both may offer takeaway drinks. Google maps location search Scudamore's punts, Mill Lane.

Newmarket is the home of horse-racing and so if you want to soak up the atmosphere an early morning trip to the gallops is a great way to start. The racecourse is currently not open to the public but normally stages around 30 race-days per year. Tattersalls Auctions are where the bloodstock are bought and sold and are a fascinating experience when they are open to the public.
