The Kickapoo Tavern was established in October 1995 and has been the anchor of the River Run Village ever since. Kickapoo originally came from the name of moonshine in the Lil’ Abner comic strip but we have since discovered that it is also the name of several American Indian tribes around the country who often visit us. Kickapoo Tavern is a great place for lunch, apres ski, or dinner, whether you’re with friends or your family. Our bar and grill atmosphere means friendly staff and great customer service so you can RELAX and enjoy.

Although most people only know it as the Keystone Lake Ice Rink, Keystone Lake itself is actually a 5 acre body of water tucked right into the Lakeside Village of Keystone, Colorado. The prominent water feature located in Summit County is a great opportunity for photos and outdoor activities all year round. Paddle Boating: In the summer, paddle boats are very popular to rent in Keystone’s Lakeside Village. Paddle boaters are supplied with lifejackets and are given the opportunity to relax atop Keystone Lake while taking in the mountain and resort views. Visitors may also rent stand up paddleboards, canoes, and cruiser bikes for getting around town. Fishing: Despite a healthy population of stocked fish, fishing is not permitted in Keystone Lake. Instead, licensed anglers can try their hand at catch and release fishing along the Snake River which runs through town. Hiking, Walking, and Biking: Keystone Lake is surrounded by a paved pathway which extends throughout the town and beyond the resort via the Snake River Trail. For those looking for a more isolated, nature experience, visitors can access the Keystone Gulch trail less than a mile southwest from the lake. Ice Skating: In the winter, Keystone Lake becomes one of the largest maintained outdoor ice skating rinks in the country. Skating is popular among visitors who are also welcome to bring a hockey stick and a puck onto the ice. There are rentals available, seasonally for skates, walkers and more. The town of Keystone typically has music playing around the rink and may close it to the public for private events like pond hockey tournaments.

The Country Boy Mine, founded in 1887, is one of the oldest and most famous mines in Summit County, Colorado. Early in its over 100 year history, the Country Boy Mine was known for its gold and silver production and later earned national fame by producing large quantities of high grade lead and zinc for use in World War I and World War II. Mining was and still is an integral part of Colorado’s and our nations’s history. The valuable ore brought out of the Country Boy Mine and the hundreds of others mines in the area played a significant role in shaping the west and bringing prosperity to the U.S. With the rapid deterioration and disappearance of historic mines in Colorado, the Country Boy Mine plays an important role in preserving Colorado’s mining history and serves to share with people the rich history of this most remarkable past. In 1991, the Tomlinson Brothers, Doug and David, along with their families conceived the dream of restoring the collapsed mine and mine site into a historical venue. As was true in the 1800’s, much work and toil went into the restoration of the mine and its site. The Country Boy Mine is located in the famous French Gulch area, where gold was discovered by a miner named French Pete in 1860. This valley was abundantly rich in gold, silver, lead and zinc and played a meaningful role in the gold rush of Breckenridge. French Gulch is home to the Reiling Gold Dredge boat, built in 1908. It extracted gold bearing ore and sank in French Gulch where it can be seen and view the rock pile landscapes it created. Tom’s Baby was discovered in the same neighborhood, a 13.5 pound crystalized piece of wire gold! The owner, Tom Groves wrapped the specimen in a baby blanket bundle and carried it around town like a baby. Also in the vicinity is the Wellington Mine, which generated millions of dollars in Gold, it was the largest mine in the area and ran on and off until 1973. Today, we welcome you to come and enjoy the Country Boy Mine for its wealth of history and gold, both past and present. https://www.countryboymine.com/

Keystone is easily accessible from Denver and Denver International Airport. It takes approximately 1 hour 30 Minutes to drive from DIA to Keystone. Also, headed back to DIA on a Sunday or Holiday would need extra time as Interstate 70 can get very backed up with a lot of traffic.
