An impressive example of the motte and bailey system. The site itself extends to over 26 acres and consists of Keep, inner bailey, outer bailey, woodland, herb garden, visitor centre and car park. Stafford Castle is considered one of the best surviving examples of Norman earthworks in the country. A programme of archaeological excavations has gradually revealed many of its secrets. A Staffordshire paradise: a rich blend of landscape, monuments, gardens and architecture, shaped by exploration and global encounters. Home to the Anson family since 1624, it was once described as ‘a perfect paradise’. Visit this important piece of Staffordshire's heritage for a full day of discoveries. The stories of Shugborough are entangled with the exploits and interests of two brothers, Thomas and George Anson. Their fortunes and their social position shaped Shugborough; understanding the origins of their power helps us to interpret the ideas and materials which flooded into Britain throughout the 18th century, furnishing homes, forging fashions and changing culture. You can explore sweeping parkland, ancient woodland and a landscape peppered with monuments. See seasonal blooms in the formal gardens, or produce in the walled garden. Head over to Park Farm and see the Tamworth pigs and Dorking chickens. Say hello to the animals, such as Longhorn cows and Southdown sheep that roam around in the fields.

On the A5 by Wheaton Aston, this is our favourite Indian restaurant with friendly staff and the best Indian food you will ever eat. We can highly recommend the chicken tikka (there isn’t another like it) and the cheesy garlic nan and pilau rice are amazing. They also do takeaways that are 10% off menu price and big enough portions to serve two.
