Food Scene

a list of nice local places to eat and drink. There are a trillion places on your doorstep, but only a few really nice ones… Tapping the Admiral: A quiet local pub...yes, even in Camden it is possible to find a quiet sit down local pub. Not many hipsters here..middle aged friendly crowd. They serve pub food, burgers, pies etc. Quite a nice place to escape to. Its off the beaten track but three minutes walk away. Tapping the admiral 77 Castle Rd, London NW1 8SU Fish and chips - poppies. Pretty good place to sit down for Fish and Chips. Quite a few tourists here but its a fun place to go. 1) Best take-away coffee and morning crepe Theres a place called ’The Little One’ in Primrose Hill, in the main parade of shops on Regents Park Road. Its next to a place called ’The Cowshed. They do really nice crepes…have one of their ‘green crepes’. And a coffee. Its takeaway only although theres a couple of benches outside, so good for when strolling. Best sit down breakfast. Head for Greenberry, also in Regents Park Rd. They do the best english breakfast / Bruch menu. High quality and good atmosphere. They are very busy on Sunday mornings so its worth booking. Nice Gastropub The Lansdowne in Primrose Hill is a good bar, filled with rustic tables and serving good wholesome food. They do pizzas too. You can’t book…mid thirties crowd. You can get to it quickest by walking along the canal...just near the street food market theres an entrance to the canal towpath. Walk along until you get to a metal staircase with signs to primrose hill...(four mins walk)...Then walk along Gloucester Ave and you'll find it. Don't walk on the canal towpath at night-time. Ive not know anything nasty to happen to anybody but I still wouldn't encourage it in the dark. It is perfectly safe (always lots of people around) during the day and evening. The Lansdowne 90 Gloucester Ave, London NW1 8HX Phone:020 7483 0409 Sushi One tube stop away 20 minute walk, Asa Kusa. Very traditional japanese feel. Good quality though I suspect Boston also has great sushi places. You must book though…and you must sit upstairs…downstairs is too quiet and lacks atmosphere. YOU MUST BOOK!!! IF POSS BOOK TWO OR THREE DAYS AHEAD... Asa Kusa 265 Eversholt St, London NW1 1BA Phone:020 7388 8533 Local vegetarian salads. The My Village Cafe Very much a cafe…nice smoothies..coffee etc. They do a nice plate called a ‘My Village Meal’ - stuffed vine leaves, wholesome rice, baba ganoush…etc. Also they do a grilled halloumi meal. Simple stuff but tasty. Also try their soup of the day which is always good. Mint tea a must. Best Vegetarian Restaurant Mildreds on Jamestown Road, 5 mins walk away. Really nice sit down high quality veggie restaurant. Good menu, great decor, nice staff. Great for lunch too. There’s a curry with rice on their menu which I love. Really wholesome. Definitely book - it gets very busy, often full. Mildred - 9 Jamestown Rd, London NW1 7BW Phone:020 7482 4200 Ice Cream Marine Ices - top of the road then turn right. Its about three blocks down, opposite the gas station. Proper italian ice cream in cones or tubs. You can sit in there too. 61 Chalk Farm Rd, London NW1 8AN shuts late..around 9pm Camden Lock Streetfood Market. By the canal…walk towards Camden…under the railway bridge walk along the cobbled street and turn left. So many stalls - all good. Greek One place I love… Lemonia in Primrose Hill, This is a big family run Cypriot place. They do the best grilled meat, shish, grilled fish (seabags/bream) etc. Great bread, houmas, tabouleh, Tarama, deep fried squid etc. Good atmosphere in the evening. You must book before you go...it gets very busy, often queues at the door if you haven't booked. Lemonia 89 Regents Park Rd NW1 +4420 7586 7454. Cupcakes and Tea Really sweet little cupcake tearoom. Sit down and choose from dozens of different cupcakes. You can get to it by walking along the canal from camden lock towards primrose hill. 10 mins walk along the canal…exit at the metal steps (signposted primrose hill) and its across the road. Primrose Hill Bakery 69 Gloucester Ave NW1 Coffee Hot Chocolate, Great Teas and Brownies Nice place to sit and have coffee or hot chocolate, a place in Parkway called Yumchaa. They also specialise in Teas and have about fifty to choose from. Yumcha 35/37 Parkway, London NW1 7PN Tapping the Admiral: A quiet local pub...yes, even in Camden it is possible to find a quiet sit down local pub.
