Great small plates, affordable and wonderful wine selection. Claudio (the owner) makes you feel like an old friend. Gorgeous garden. Seats at the bar are almost more popular than tables! A great spot for brunch as well.

Driving by, you would totally miss this place and that would be a shame. All you see is the parking lot on the corner. But walk through the parking lot, through the carved wooden doors, and you enter a magical garden with a giant tree providing shade to the diners. The food is fantastic - one of the best brunch spots in the city. Great bar selections.

You could make your own coffee, or you can walk around the corner for some of the best coffee in Silverlake (and that's saying a lot for a place that has great coffee). Totally charming little spot. Be forewarned, it's expensive!

So, this place isn't walkable from Casa Palmitas, but it's authentic NY pizza (and I grew up in NY so I know what I'm talking about!). Sometimes you just need pizza...

No trip to LA is complete without a visit to downtown LA. And Redbird is one of my favorite restaurants downtown. Gorgeous space. Tasty food, and less expensive than you would think. They also give you an amuse booze rather than an amuse bouche to start your meal!

If you are in town during the Hollywood Bowl season, you should definitely see a show at this iconic venue. From the Sound of Music Sing-A-Long to the Hollywood Philharmonic to Tony Bennett to Maxwell, the Hollywood Bowl has an incredible lineup of performers. You can pack a picnic and eat on the grounds or at your seat. And you are welcome to bring wine! A must do in LA.

Parks & Nature

There is an actual lake in Silverlake! Ok, a reservoir! Run (or walk) around the reservoir - about 2 miles around. Or have a picnic in the meadow on the north side of the reservoir. There's often yoga classes in the meadow.

Entertainment & Activities

Dodger Stadium is about 1.5 miles away, so you could walk to Dodger Stadium from Casa Palmitas...or you could Uber! A fun way to spend an afternoon. Dodger Stadium hasn't been redone like lots of other stadiums, but I love the old school vibe.
