Food Scene

I love this restaurant! The food items are unique, with all-natural ingredients. And the atmosphere is wonderful. It's my go-to whenever friends and family come to town. Every meal I've had is great, and I never turn down a hot cup or cold glass of their house tea - a really delicious spicy cinnamon black loose leaf.

Manitou is full of great food, but I love Pizzeria Rustica in particular. It serves up great wood-fired pizza, and it doesn't disappoint. It's a tiny space, so can feel a bit crowded, but the pizza is worth it!

There is a debate amongst Colorado Springs'ians about which barbecue is the best. I don't understand why there would be... in my opinion, it's Front Range all the way! They serve up heaping portions, and they have three sauce options which are all amazing. This place has my vote. The ambiance is nothing special, but don't be concerned - the food is amazing.

Parks & Nature

It's iconic to Colorado Springs! We kind of assume it's why you came ;) You cannot miss this, even if you just have enough time to drive the loop. See our supplemental sheet on how to access trails via a short walk or drive from the house.

If you'd like the quieter and less crowded version of Garden of the Gods, go just across the highway to Red Rock Canyon Open Space. Their trails are well-marked with maps at most of the trail intersections. I typically take the contemplative trail from the main parking lot, and it's a beautiful winding ascent through and amongst many red rock formations. The views here are beautiful, and you can connect trails to make your hike as long or as short as suits you!

Everything Else

If you have the budget to do so, a day at the spa will not disappoint. I personally do it just about once a year, and I wish I could go more often! It really is one of the world class 5-star hotels, and getting a spa treatment and spending the day in your cozy bathrobe breathing in the mountain views is a really nice way to experience it. There are also a lot of great eateries to enjoy on the grounds. The Penrose Room is the fanciest, and is worth a splurge for a special occasion.

Drinks & Nightlife

If you're a rock-climber, this is your spot. Just strike up a conversation with the bartender or the person next to you, and they'll give you the inside scoop.

Shopping

A whole shop devoted to lavender! I actually first interacted with Pelindaba at their home location in Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands in Washington state, long before I moved to Colorado. If you have any affinity for lavender - as a fragrance, a healing oil, or a food... go visit this shop as you walk through Manitou. You'll certainly find some fun souvenirs to bring home to the lavender lovers in your life!

Entertainment & Activities

This zoo is the best I've been to! We have an annual pass, and we love it. They have some beautiful natural enclosures for their animals, and they do a lot of conservation work. Bring along some extra cash so you can feed the giraffes ($3 for a handful of lettuce), the budgies/birds ($1 for a popsicle stick with honey and seeds), and even the rhinoceros! ($10 to be able to give Jumbe some carrots!)
