A few food landmarks: McKellar confectionery, a family-owned restaurant famous for its Coney dogs, coney burgers, milkshakes and fries. Generations of families have traditionally grown up enjoying their secret recipe and old school feel. Also, Thunder Bay is famous for its Persians. Stop by a local bakery or Persian Man restaurant to try. one (if you can stop after just one). There are many excellent ethnic restaurants. My personal favorite is iMasala Grill (Court St North) for traditional Indian buffet and atmosphere. For more casual dining closer to your suite, the Fort William Curling Club serves amazing Chinese food.

A quick drive through Fort William First Nation and up the side of the mountain (Mount McKay) along a beautiful winding road takes you to breathtaking, high altitude views of the forests/mountains/lake/city. Enjoy trying to pinpoint you're suite and other local points of interest from the lookout. make time to drive-thru Chippewa Park and take a walk out the dock, then stop at Bannon's for a pickerel and Bannock dinner on the way back! For a shorter drive, from a lower altitude, Hillcrest Park Scenic Lookout is a nice place to stop to relax in your car with a cup of coffee and the radio, or get out and enjoy a picnic or short walk among the beautiful flower gardens.

The conservation area is within city limits so it is a short drive. The trails are well marked and the waterfalls are beautiful. If you would like a bit of a longer drive with a shorter walk, Silver Harbour boasts beautiful sunsets on the bay visible from the landing, or views of Lake Superiors from it's rocky shoreline, only seconds walking distance from the public landing.
