Food Scene

In the past, life in Alentejo was very hard and the economic resources of the people were scarce. These factors made traditional Alentejo cuisine simple but imaginative, mixing the period ingredients that were available to create dishes whose origins are easy to recognize. Tasting them is one of the great experiences in Alentejo.

Wineries and Enotourisms

Wine region of great tradition, Alentejo has wines that surprise us for their excellence, aromas and colors, as unique as the landscape and the gastronomy itself. This region of vast horizons, to which the cork oaks give a feeling of strength and perpetuity, was once an extensive field of wheat. Currently, the crops give way to huge vineyards, whose wines receive the strength of the landscape and the ambient heat, being among the most recognized in Portugal. The distinct characteristics of the soils depending on the area (granite, limestone, Mediterranean or schist), the countless hours of sun exposure and a set of selected grape varieties allows for high quality production, combined with the ability to maintain the tradition of flavor but innovating in art to make the wine. For this reason, there are countless renowned wineries in this area that you can visit and do wine tasting. In some of them, you will also be able to taste the olive oils they produce.
