Chewacla State Park's 696 scenic acres offer plenty of rest, relaxation and recreation, just a short drive from the Auburn University. Facilities include a 26-acre lake, swimming area, playground, a modern campground, picnic areas with tables, grills and shelters, cabins, hiking and mountain biking trails. Activities Lake Chewacla is perfect for reeling in bream, bass, crappie and catfish or taking a dip off the beach area. No luck in the lake, then try one of the park’s two creeks. Marlye loves the Hefeweizen! Red Clay Brewing Company is a brewery and taproom located in downtown Opelika with roots firmly entrenched in the South. The founders of the Company were all born and raised here. The “red clay” native to this region of the South, and that we all knew so well growing up, became a natural moniker for their business. Red Clay Brewing represents the history of the South we love and call home. Opelika is a Muskogee word meaning Big Swamp, and this became the inspiration for one of their first beers: Big Swamp Stout. Another beer, Hop Jubilee, is inspired by the late night “jubilee’s” the founders attended off the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. Hay Shed Saison is another craft beer produced that is a Peppercorn Saison. Hours: Thursday and Friday - 4pm till Midnight Saturday - Noon till Midnight

The dining room is special.... it has Antique Heart Pine that was used through out the 1800’s as the virgin forest of the south was cut to build homes and factories. The timbers used in this restaurant were sawn by Nelson Tift’s saw mill in Albany Georgia in 1875. The shutters decorating the dining room were discovered in a smoke house in Chambers County and once graced the mansions of Chambers and Russell Counties. The Lighting has been hand crafted from recycled materials by the former Rock Star Tony McCray. Tony McCray’s travels throughout the south finding items of true southern history to create lighting treasures. COME EXPERIENCE the difference these historic artifacts add to the dining experience. Relax…Enjoy a relaxing atmosphere and your favorite wine by the glass or bottle from our custom wine cellar. The Wines- Ma Fia's serves your favorite wines at competitive prices. It’s an environment where you can be transported to Italy. At Ma Fias, you’ll get a delicious wines, great cheeses, amazing flavor, every single time. It’s what we do. The Dining- To compliment and further enhance the wonderful flavors of our pizza, they’ve assembled a collection of handcrafted beers, whose quality is nothing less than world-class. One of Auburn’s oldest and most renowned traditions, thousands of AU faithful join in downtown Auburn to celebrate tiger victories by hurling tissue into the surrounding trees, lamp posts, and anything that will stand still long enough. A quirky fracas that can last for hours, a blizzard of paper is left blanketing the entire intersection. There’s no way you haven’t heard of it, but seeing is believing! And here’s a fun side note: Auburn is the only city in the country with a line item in its budget for removing toilet tissue!

Take a stroll around our beautiful campus. Auburn University today is a comprehensive land, sea and space grant institution – among the few that hold that distinction – occupying more than 1,840 acres and helping fulfill the dreams of nearly 25,000 students. A land-grant college or university is an institution that has been designated by its state legislature or Congress to receive the benefits of the Morrill Acts of 1862 and 1890. The original mission of these institutions, as set forth in the first Morrill Act, was to teach agriculture, military tactics, and the mechanical arts as well as classical studies so that members of the working classes could obtain a liberal, practical education.

You don't have to be a bird enthusiast to enjoy learning about birds of prey at Auburn University's Southeastern Raptor Center. In addition to hundreds of shows throughout the state and region each year, the center's educational unit staff conducts programs at the Edgar B. Carter Amphitheatre each Friday before Auburn football games. The program, known as Football, Fans and Feathers, features hawks, falcons and eagles free-flown from flight towers, enabling guests to see the raptors up close. It begins at 4 p.m., and admission is $5 (payable on arrival). Although the center is not open to the public except for these special presentation dates, groups can schedule a program by calling (334) 844-6943.

The Donald E. Davis Arboretum at Auburn University showcases a living collection of native plants from the Southeastern U.S. and is situated on 14 acres of the university's main campus. The Davis Arboretum, which has a strong focus on Alabama's plants and natural habitats, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013. The garden is open to the public year round, and features core collections of oaks, carnivorous plants, and native azaleas. Visitors will find representations of Alabama's coastal dunes, blackbelt prairies, longleaf pine savannahs, pitcher plant bogs, and even shaded slopes from the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. All of the installations are used to teach the volume and value of the immense biodiversity that grows in Alabama. As a means of educating the public and Auburn University students on the plants found in the Davis Arboretum, three self-guided species tours have been installed – The Oaks; Large Trees; and Small Trees and Shrubs. The tours are open to the public and are guided by brochures containing maps of species locations in the garden. Anyone interested in taking a tour can pick up a brochure at the Davis Arboretum Pavilion. The Davis Arboretum also serves as a testing ground for sustainable practices, and visitors can take an 11-stop, self-guided tour, "Managing Stormwater the way Nature Does." The tour, which is also guided by a brochure that can be picked up at the Davis Arboretum Pavillion, illustrates many aspects of water movement, as well as sustainable water management techniques that can be incorporated into the landscape and allow water to slow down, spread out, and soak in slowly.

When Toomer’s lemonade ranked number one in Esquire magazine’s “162 Reasons It’s Good To Be An American." it was only about 105 years after the rest of us already knew. Handmade to order, this tart and tangy concoction is the hallmark of Toomer’s Drugstore, a beloved Auburn icon and the only business that has occupied this historic corner since 1896. Open seven days.

It is one of the most iconic moments in all of college football: Jordan-Hare’s capacity crowd of almost 90,000 rumbling in unison as a rare eagle is released to free-fly in circles around the stadium, eventually landing mid-field on its leathery pseudo-prey. We defy any living, breathing human, regardless of the colors you wear, to not get goose bumps from this phenomenon. Nova (War Eagle VII) is a resident of Auburn University’s Southeastern Raptor Rehabilitation Center, where he has been raised and trained, along with his bald eagle friend Spirit, to open home football games in this inspirational fashion. War Eagle y’all.
