Sleek wine bar

Koffie Ende Koeck. Opposite the Westerpark, A super cute little place, with a few tables and a whipper of an espresso machine. Because yes, coffee, that's what it's all about here. Coffee, juices and delicious vegan tarts. Coffee with different types of vegetable milk, such as almond milk, oat milk and of course the good old soy milk. Luxury cakes, cinnamon rolls, richly filled sandwiches and vegetable quiches. It all comes over. If you are in doubt and think: can I eat here? Maartje (the owner of Koffie Ende Koeck) says: “everything I make is 100% vegan. In addition, there are enough gluten-free and sugar-free options. "

Hip pizzaria with two locations. The one in De Pijp neighbourhood serves meat but also has several vegan pizzas on the menu. With vegan cheese! Mastino V at Bilderdijkstraat is 99% vegan (just some optional mozarella) and has a huge menu. Mastino V is also 100% glutenfree. It makes the pizza bottoms slightly different so if you’re not a fan of that then still head to the one at De Pijp. At both locations the pizzas are served in a box, not on a plate, even if you eat in. They have vegan desserts made by Sharp Sharp like a brownie and no-cheese cake, and a large variety of special juices and softdrinks (try the chinotto!).

In contrast to the city parks, this is peaceful and quiet. There are quite a few features which make the area attractive. Lots of space, lots of water and panoramic water views, a beach, areas for personal training, picnic grounds, numerous cycle paths and much more. If you enjoy being in nature, this is for you! You can walk all the way around the lake in approx one hour. Off the usual tourist track!

Café Alto is a small brown-café style place hidden away in the touristy restaurant area just off Leidseplein. Each night, a mix of regulars and tourists come here to ease back with a whiskey or well-mixed cocktail, and listen to the rhythms provided by top jazz musicians. Cafe Alto Amsterdam Jazz ClubSince many years back, this intimate, dark and dusty little venue has attracted jazz enthusiasts from all over the world to Amsterdam. Many of the big names in jazz have entered the small stage over the years, and you can be sure to be regaled talented local groups and settings any day of the week. Jazz and free-jazz dominates the musical agenda although blues bands have gigs from time to time. Much appreciated Dutch saxophonist Hans Dulfer performs here every Wednesday, sometimes accompanied by his equally talented daughter, Candy Dulfer. Café Alto remains the only walk-in bar to offer live jazz every night of the week in Amsterdam and is definitely an unavoidable jazz venue. Be sure to get there early, and you might have a chance to score a table close to the stage. Doors open at 9 pm all nights of the week. Music starts at 10 pm and plays the whole night through, to 3 am on weekdays and 4 am on weekends. When finding your way there, look for a large saxophone high upon the façade. Don’t miss out on this little piece of heaven!

Popular vegetarian restaurant in Rotterdam since many years, recently opened a location in Amsterdam! Spirit is a modern buffet style restaurant with about fifty dishes to choose from, open from breakfast till dinner. You pay per weight. The selection of dishes is very diverse, inspired by international cuisine yet with a modern twist, and all organic. From antipasti packed with flavour to delicate salads and filling dishes like stews and vegetable stirfries. Or choose from the deepfried bites, hearty soups and various dessert options! And don’t forget to have a look at the icecream buffet, featuring eight flavours which are all vegan! Next to the counter is also a seperate pie fridge with more fancy cakes. Most dishes are vegan, this is indicated on the description cards next to the dishes. The selection of dishes in the buffet changes every so often, also depending on the season. The pleasantly arranged interior is very spacious and bright. Lots of seating so an ideal place to meet for big groups but also popular among individuals working on their laptop. If the weather permits there’s also outside seating. Spirit got some positive reviews recently by newspapers Het Parool and NRC. Definately raising the bar for the vegan/vegetarian restaurant scene in Amsterdam! Spirit is located at the corner of Czaar Peterstraat, a stone’s throw away from the iconic windmill of Brouwerij ‘t IJ. On the edge of Amsterdam East, not too far away from the city centre also. In the same building as Spirit there’s also organic store Odin, accessible directly from the restaurant.

This museum is one of Amsterdam hidden treasures. Located off city centre in a beautiful old building in East Amsterdam (Amsterdam Oost), Tropenmuseum often remains forgotten, like an old collection of post stamps. However, if you are interested in other cultures, other countries and distant lands - do no miss it. Amsterdam Tropenmuseum exhibit is modern, fascinating on many levels and inspiring. Do also check online before you visit for the special exhibits - some of these are not to be missed!

The Kashmir started out as a DJ Cafe / Coffeeshop. In the Old West of Amsterdam there was a big need for a place to chill, have a beer or a smoke or two with friends while listening to some great music. The laid back tunes and atmosphere during the day make it the perfect location to lounge with a cup of tea or coffee, or sit on the outside terrace to watch the world go by. The Kashmir Lounge was one of the first DJ Café/Coffeeshops in the Netherlands and every night there is a different line up of DJs playing an eclectic mix of music for your pleasure. In 2012 Kashmir Lounge was awarded #1 Dj Cafe in Amsterdam by www.djmag.com The Kashmir has been used as the film location for a number of motion pictures as well as a number of music videos and is well known by locals and international visitors alike. After all these years we are still proud that many people old and young consider it the place to be in the Amsterdam! Nowadays the Kashmir Coffee Shop is situated just across the street from the Kashmir Lounge Dj Café.

A sleek wine bar tucked away on the Nes, Bubbles and Wines is a terrific place for a few glasses of wine and a snack. Sit inside at a table or the bar, or during nice weather sip your wine standing outside by the big wine barrels. Their “gourmet bites” are super tasty, ranging from caviar to olives. They also do a champagne flight, which includes 3 glasses of champagne. It’s so fun, perfect way to start a night on the town!

The Prael Houthavens has one of the largest terraces in Amsterdam , which is a great sun trap! They also serve the tastiest beers and matching dishes. Off the beaten track for tourists, this gem is a short bike ride or Uber from my house. You can also park ride outside if you happen to have a car. It's a relaxed, family like atmosphere and they have live jazz on many sunday afternoons, and other bands and events some evenings. Check the website or facebook page for the agenda FYI - There is also a ''De Prael'' in the Red Light District but I personally have not been to that one. I'm sure it's also good!
