My favorite restaurants in Denver

These are my favorite restaurants in Denver. Many of them are also close to the house. If you find a spot you love that's not on this list, please let me know so I can go check it out!
This is the best sushi restaurant in Denver, by far! The food is consistently excellent, and just as good as any sushi restaurant you could find in NYC or San Francisco. Some of the sushi is even flown in fresh from Tokyo every day!

Denver is known for its phenomenal Vietnamese food, and New Saigon may be the best Vietnamese restaurant in the city. They do serve pho, but you'll take your meal to the next level by trying some of the items you've never tasted before! My favorite is the wraps - get the large sampler platter if you have enough guests.

Alamo is probably the most fun way to eat a meal... while watching a movie! That's right, this is a movie theater where waiters come around, take your order, and bring you food while you watch a film. And the food is pretty good too!

Things to do around town

One of the best parts about coming to Denver is actually escaping the city and heading out to the mountains. But if you'd prefer to stay local and check out what the city has to offer, here's a few suggestions.
LoDo (lower downtown) is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Denver at the moment, and Union Station is its crown jewel. Tons of restaurants, tons of people watching, and tons of shopping along the 16th street mall. If you're looking for a place to walk around and grab lunch, this is where you should go.

This is actually just outside of Denver, but it's a must-see! This is one of the best concert venues in the country, and the sound is amazing! If you happen to be in town when a good band is playing, I highly recommend making the trek out. Even when there's no bands playing, this is still a fun place to go out and see, and there are hiking trails all around the venue. They also have yoga classes in the summer!

This is the real reason you should come to Denver: to leave and head for the hills! Colorado is home to some big beautiful rocks. Go play!
The Mount Evans Scenic Byway, just 60 miles west of Denver, is the highest paved road in North America. A day trip to the top is a journey that snakes and climbs through nearly 9,000 feet of elevation gain, from the high plains of Denver through five climate zones to the 14,264-foot summit of Mount Evans – one of 54 peaks in Colorado that soar to 14,000 feet and above.

The area now known as Garden of the Gods was first called Red Rock Corral by the Europeans. Then, in August 1859, two surveyors who helped to set up Colorado City explored the site. One of the surveyors, M. S. Beach, suggested that it would be a "capital place for a beer garden". His companion, the young Rufus Cable, awestruck by the impressive rock formations, exclaimed, "Beer Garden! Why it is a fit place for the Gods to assemble. We will call it the Garden of the Gods. True story!
