Barbecue

We’ve got lots of great barbecue in Nashville (Memphis style, TN style —sweet & spicy & oh, so good). Martin’s downtown on 4th is fantastic. Get there early ‘cause the lines tend to be long. And Martin’s has this wonderful beer garden with a glass roof and indoor trees!

Edley’s here in East Nashville also has fantastic BBQ, and they add some great twists to the class bbq menu. Their brisket tacos are the bomb, and the pork bbq tacos are also fantastic.

Pizza

Five Points Pizza is fantastic! We particularly love the Zeus pizza and the Meatball pie (we get half and half). Right in the heart of Five Points, this NY style pizza is the bomb!

Southern Eats

If you’ve got an appetite, you should check out Monell’s. You don’t order; you just pay one price and they bring you lots of wonderful, very tasty, Southern food. The original Monell’s in Germantown is very close to East Nashville, and it’s a unique and really fun experience. The food is all served family-style, so you sit at long tables with people you don’t know, and you pass the food around the table. Pace yourself, though, because the food just keeps coming and coming. You will leave very satisfied (read: stuffed to the gills).

Loveless Cafe: The Loveless is a Nashville institution, and the food is so good. Best fried chicken ever. It is pretty far out on the west side of town, though, and there is always a line. However, I just heard that you can now make reservations on Open Table —Woohoo!

Hot Chicken

Nashville is known for hot chicken, and there are lots of places to get it. Warning: hot chicken is really HOT. I’m not kidding.
Prince’s is the original, but it burned, and I'm not sure if they have relocated. My favorite is Hattie B’s (midtown or West Nashville). Bolton’s was started by one of the original chefs at Prince’s, but I can't even handle the mild there (it's super hot!). I’ve also heard Party Fowl in the Gulch also has great hot chicken. But try some hot chicken before you head home!

Groceries

Kroger & Aldi are both good groceries, and super close to our house. Just head down Cleveland for a few minutes, and you’ll see them both at the intersection of Eastland (Cleveland becomes Eastland) and Gallatin/Main St.

Shopping

Opry Mills Mall is about 12 minutes away (north on Ellington Pkwy, then exit at Briley Pkwy East), and has TONS of outlet stores. Good deals to be found here.

Green Hills has tons of shopping, but also tons of traffic. There’s the Green Hills mall, Trader Joe’s, Anthropologie, Shake Shack, Restoration Hardware, etc. But honestly, I try to avoid Green Hills (tons of people and tons of traffic lights).
